Fire Everyone
KB: Hired TL after a Cotton Bowl season. Refused to fire SH after falling back to mediocrity and following that up w/ 2 miserable seasons. Refused to fire Culhane after many miserable seasons. Doesn't seem to have a desire to win Championships.

AM: 8 years of nothing to cheer for. All hype. Atrocious on the PP & highly penalized. Blown out common. Follow up a good win with 1 or 2 Losses. After 1 good year have regressed back to as if we're in our first year in the NCHC

SH: Ceiling winning the division consistently & losing in the first round of the MAC Tourney. Regressed from that to average in the Division & lately a cellar-dweller.

TL: Shouldn't have been hired in the first place. Can't get over the hump. Inherited too much for 20-18. Every chance at winning a big game is met w/ disaster.

Good news is none of the programs are complete disasters so new staff/admin would have a lot to work w/. Football & hockey unable to get over the hump & have the pieces; Basketball would need most work but .500 @ this point would be welcome.

I blame totally on KB. Need to instigate a desire for the U to win Championships, light fire under the staffs ass, & hire the right guys @ the right time. It's a culture thing. Either the programs are steady @ .500 or bottom of the Conference.

Championships Expected @ Our Conference Foes:
Look @ Central & Eastern Michigan: EMU dominates non-Olympic sports, CMU seems to win the MAC consistently in other sports outside football. Chips football experienced a few years of mediocrity & they brought in SEC Coach of the Year.

WMU competes in a Conference where Championships are the expectation in hockey. All the other programs are consistently putting themselves in place to do that.

Toledo & Northern Illinois expect to put up 8,9 wins in football every season. Any wonder why it's a struggle reaching 7???

RE: Fire Everyone
Looking outside the "revenue" sports it gets even worse.

Baseball, golf, cross country, gymnastics, W soccer, softball, track and field are all solidly in the lower half of the league. Volleyball, W tennis, W basketball have been middling at best.

Men's tennis and men's soccer have been good, so that's something. And of course rugby has been great, because the athletic department hasn't gotten a hold of it yet.

I long to see a competitive spirit in the AD's office.

RE: Fire Everyone
Interesting perspective by OP.

FWIW-
The Reese trophy is awarded to the top performing MAC Men’s athletic program.
WMU has been runner up for 4 of last 5 years.

All the men's sports have been average to good except for maybe baseball. And basketball last year.

But the women's sports...oof

Didn't realize we've been runner-up for Men's Trophy so often lately.

But that goes w/ what I'm saying too: New staff/admin would have a lot to work with unlike the usual disasters new staff/admin tends to inherit.

RE: Fire Everyone
Currently THE biggest need of the WMU athletic dept is money.
There was a significant budget cut for this fiscal year.

Gifts to Mike Gary Fund can be designated to your favorite sport.

Good or bad, universities are ranked by many for enrollment based on athletics superiority whether it be by parents or those attending. WMU is satisfied the mediocrity I’m so sorry to say. My contribution to the university is both in word and what I would believe WMU considers a significant
cash contribution. I can no longer stand by and continue to be part of mediocrity and so will no longer be part of this charade. WMU management does not hear stories of alum talking up the university but they will hear , I can no longer support mediocrity from a cash standpoint. When the university steps up, I will again

Sad to hear that. I'll always support athletics because the effort the student athletes put in, but definitely the school needs to emphasize winning championships. There's so much potential and it's all wasted.

FIRE BRONCO '14!

Couldn't resist, since you said "Fire Everyone." Besides, your performance around here is lacking. Lots of negativity and whining, which is EASY. Providing an answer or solutions other than firing everybody is not easy.

Am I happy with the performance of our athletic teams? Hardly. Football, basketball and hockey have been leaving lots to be desired the past few years.

Likely nothing will change until we have a new AD. Even then, the new person will have to learn the new landscape, money constraints, the attitudes of the President, the Board, etc.

Once KB retires, I hope we can find somebody with a proven track record and most importantly, a vision of where they would like to take our athletic department. Hopefully our new President will agree with a new commitment to excellence and striving for championships.

Nothing personal, B 14.

Just frustrated lately.

But Hawkins & AM have won Championships. AM probably here till he retires & does well w/ what he has. Hawkins ceiling is better then most MAC b-ball ceilings. 2nd Place West finish in football isn't horrible & I'm happy w/ making bowl games. The programs aren't bad by any stretch, just would like to see a desire for Championships & for the programs not to choke in key games (hockey last season, football past couple seasons). So much potential. Would like to see a that drive & passion for championships when AM & KB retire, & TL & SH to get those results.

We need to go after Ferris State's AD. They are a Division 2 school that maintains a Division 1 hockey program while challenging for and winning national titles in Football and Basketball in D2. Seems like someone WMU could use.

He is certainly someone we should look at if/when KB is no longer in the picture.

His name is Perk Weisenburger. Previous AD or sports admin experience at UNLV, Illinois State, Wake Forest, CMU, Washington and Houston.

Native of Mount Pleasant, undergrad at CMU, graduate school at Ohio. He knows Michigan and knows the MAC.

You should be the new AD. It's probably as easy as just firing everybody in sight. That will probably do the trick, lol.
