For the Korn Ferry, after Q School, there is a priority list of over 200 golfers that are eligible to play. This year, Taylor Pendrith was roughly in the middle of the list based on his Q School performance and finishing in the Top 5 of the Mackenzie Tour last year. Chase Johnson was near the bottom of that list and likely wouldn’t get any opportunities to play if not for the pandemic keeping many foreign golfers off the Korn Ferry Tour. During the year, they do reordering based on how the golfers actually perform and, hence, if you are doing well, you will get into tournaments and, if you are not, you find yourself going further down the list.

In Taylor Pendrith’s case, getting off to a good (not necessarily great, but good) start is important because you can find yourself too far down the list to get into tournaments by the end of the year. He did and will keep playing. In Chase Johnson’s case, he has to wait until the next reorder (they don’t do this after every tournament) and he’ll be far enough up the list to get into whatever Korn Ferry tournament he wants to. But, for now, he needs to wait. So, after the 2nd place finish, he got into the next tournament based on finishing in the Top 25 (I think that’s the number), the previous week, but, for this week, he was too far down the list and had to try to Monday qualify.

In summary, once they reorder again, Johnson will get to play as much as he wants to for the rest of the year.

great thanks for the information

Place this one under "Wow, just wow."

Taylor Pendrith finished tied for second today. He started the day tied for 20th, way off the pace, but played great golf and drifted up the scoreboard and the leaders drifted down. The only person having a better day was winner Seth Reeves who shot 7 under to sit in the clubhouse for two hours watching everyone else slip under him. This gives Pendrith his third straight second place finish, which I can't remember anyone doing that (and he finished third the week before that). He is 3rd in the Korn Ferry point rankings with the Top 10 getting some standing on the PGA tour next year.

This also makes 3 former Flashes in the Top 169 in the World Golf Rankings!

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2020 Edition
In doing a little research, I found out that the Top 5 at the time on the Korn Ferry Tour will play at the US Open, so we could have three Kent players (Conners, Hughes and Pendrith) there.

I also saw that Conners and Pendrith spent their week off fishing for barracuda.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2020 Edition
Conners missed the cut at the Wyndham Open.

Taylor Pendrith put together 4 solid rounds and finished tied for 11th on the Korn Ferry Tour. Chase Johnson missed the cut.

I found out that the top 5 from the Korn Ferry that get into the US Open was based on standing as of last week, so Taylor Pendrith will join Corey Conners and Mackenzine Hughes at the US Open this year.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2020 Edition
Ok, 2019-20 season is winding down quickly and here’s the lay of the land.

Mackenzie Hughes did an up and down to finish tied for 10th in the BMW Championship and looked like he is 28th in the Fed Ex standings, which means he’ll play in the Tour Championship next week. This is his first time to make the Tour Championship as he is having the best year of his career with 4 top 10 finishes including a solo 2nd at the Honda Classic.

Corey Conners finished tied for 33rd and will finish the year a very solid 53rd in the Fed Ex standings.

Taylor Pendrith finished tied for 9th at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship and will be 4th in the overall standings for the Korn Ferry Tour this year. Unfortunately, no one from the Korn Ferry Tour will ‘graduate’ to the PGA tour this year because of the COVID, though Pendrith will have status on the PGA tour this year. It isn’t clear to me how many tournaments he will be able to play in, but he will be joining Hughes and Conners at the US Open in a few weeks.

Chase Johnson has missed a bunch of cuts, but finished the year 57th on the Korn Ferry Tour, almost entirely off of a solo 2nd Place finish. He will continue playing the Korn Ferry Tour next year.

Ian Holt is playing in the Latinoamerica Tour, which are holding some tournaments in the US right now called the LocalIQ Tour. I don’t know what that even means, but it’s keeping him playing competitive golf during this chaos (after all, he can’t exactly get into Canada right now to play the Mackenzie Tour, which is really nothing but a glorified beer tour at the moment).

Okay, that’s all for now.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2020 Edition
Mackenzie Hughes played very well this weekend and ended up 14th in the Tour Championship, which is good since he started 10 strokes down (they place the players depending on their rank during the season). His overall score was actually tied for 7th on the weekend, which gets him One World Golf Ranking points that are adding up.

Why does this matter? Well, for getting into the World Golf Championships and Majors as well as representing Canada in the Olympics. Right now, it is very likely that Canada will send two golfers to the Olympics and those will be based on the OWGR.

Right now for Canadians, Hughes is 57th, Adam Hadwin is 66th, Corey Conners is 70th. It is likely that 2 of those 3 will get into the Olympics, and I’m routing for the Flashes.

In slightly bad news, Pendrith, who does have some status on the PGA Tour was too far down the list to play next week’s Safeway Open. The way it’s set up is not good for the Korn Ferry Top 10 for 2020 to get many tournaments, so we’ll see what happens.

US Open News:

* Conners and Hughes missed the cut BUT Taylor Pendrith made the cut tied for 33rd. Taylor has never made a cut in three previous PGA tournaments, so the very first cut he has made is in a major. Career milestone!

Naturally Taylor was the only KSU golfer to make the cut. Just as we all would have guessed.

Also, Chase Johnson made his first cut in a very long time on the Korn Ferry Tour and is tied for 16th.

And Pendrith is one back after 6 holes on the Korn Ferry Tour. This could be a fun day for Kent golf fans.

Both Hughes & Pendrith are currently in second, one-shot off the lead, in their respective tournaments.

Hughes was tied for the lead late, but Swafford made a birdie on 17 and Hughes just bogeyed 18, so Hughes will finished solo third, which is great, but you could see that he was disappointed in that last hole.

Pendrith is down by one with three holes left in solo 2nd.

And now I’m watching a twitter thread to follow Pendrith. He needs to sink a 15 footer to tie for the lead with a birdie. His opponent has a 6 footer for par.
