WBB vs. Elon 1/5/2020
Since Brian is celebrating his anniversary - congrats to you both!! - I thought I would start this thread.

Women host Elon tomorrow at 2 for game 2 of conference play. Elon brings a 6-6 total record and a 1-0 conference record to Harrisonburg. Elon beat Towson Friday night.

This game is the annual Teddy Bear Toss, so bring a new or gently used teddy bear to toss over onto the court at halftime.

The team will also be signing autographs after the game.

Hope to see a lot of you there!!

RE: WBB vs. Elon 1/5/2020
I think this could be a very competitive game today. Elon's record is deceiving. They played a VERY challenging pre-CAA schedule...and, it might now pay off in the CAA schedule.

Losses so far to... at Marist (9-2), at UNCheat (11-2), vs Wake Forest (8-5), vs IUPUI (8-6) in Vegas, at NC State (13-0), and at Coastal Carolina (9-2). Only UNCheat and Coastal Carolina are just outside the top 100 in the nation in RPI.

Take care of business, Dukes.

Good Gals jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but have been very very sloppy since then. Tie game 14-14 early 2Q.

Hopefully the Dukes will be able to pull things together. Very cold shooting so far.

Is Benitez just taking bad shots? 1 for 7 start today....

Solid win today. A strong start to the 2nd half bumped the lead out to double digits, which is where the Good Gals pretty much held the lead the rest of the way (in that 9 to 13 point range).

Elon has really improved from last year. Kudos to Charlotte Smith. They'll be a tough out for everybody in the CAA this season. Next 3 are on the road over the next 2 weekends.

RE: WBB vs. Elon 1/5/2020
There was some sloppiness in the game that needs to be improved on, but overall it was a good win. Our defense is solid and getting better--fewer missed assignments and just very intimidating. They do need to work on the turnovers, though. Those will kill us in a close game.

The more I see of her, the more I like Rayne Tucker. She is going to be a real monster out there. And Carodine continues to do stuff that doesn't show up on the stat sheets but is valuable.

Agree on Tucker. She has a tenacity and nose for the ball down in the post. Rayne and Kiki will be counted on in a big way next year when these seniors depart. Really great to see Rayne stepping her game up at the midway point to her initial season. Her ceiling is high. I think she'll learn to start finishing those put back off offensive rebounds she's getting down low. She may be just rushing herself a bit, but she'll learn and relax. Love her motor.

Overall I thought we sleep walked through that game. Maybe everyone stayed up too late last night. Team just looked flat to me. Count the W; on to Towson next weekend.

Flat? Seriously? WHERE were you sitting? Down near the floor it was anything but!! Scratch and scramble all the way. Elon is a very good defensive team. It would have been a better game and the separation would have been higher had JMU not had so many turnovers. Kamiah in particular sometimes gets a little careless when dribbling, which is why I'd rather not have her at point. But not a sleepwalk at all.

On Tucker...she's a couple steps faster than Kayla, which is a plus (not putting Kayla down at all, she's very quick for a post player but Tucker is even quicker) and is coming along much faster than post players usually do. The more she plays--and she's getting a lot of minutes now--the more she'll relax, and those putbacks will come along. I look for her to lead the new crop of bigs we'll be getting next year.
