Even if VCU brought any amount percentage of its market it wouldn't be worth an invite... Many here drooling over VCU to the AAC is a huge mistake.
VCU draws good national interest and consistently sells out their arena, neither of which Buffalo can claim.
I think you overselling VCU... The minute VCU drops to the bottom feeder stage after joining the AAC everyone is going to scream how horrible this addition was.
Gonzaga should be AAC's main basketball target, IMHO
I'm still confused about how SDSU all sports is too far... But Gonzaga Olympic sports fits the AAC... I've figured out a lot of things in my life that really did't make sense, I'll figure this out too, it might take me a while to figure it out.

Buffalo meets most of Aresco's criteria (except national "brand"), and would be more than adequate replacement for struggling UConn FB.
However, you haven't done your research if you consider VCU's market "tiny."
There are over 10,000,000 viewers in the broadcasting region consisting of persons who live less than two-hours, by car, from VCU's campus.
That's as large as or larger than any of the 2020 AAC FB or 2020-21 BB broadcasting regions, including Philadelphia, Dallas, Tampa, Orlando, and Houston.
The AAC creates "beast slayers"... Time to recreate buffalo into the northern version of UCF!!!
...and the track is staying to take "Victory Laps"!!

The handful programs worthy of an invite are either comfortable in their current position or are simply to far out of AAC's loop.
This leaves us with posibly going after someone in a strong market and presumably growing their performance soon after joining the AAC.

That would Imply betting on growth potential... I would bet anything that if the folks that do that type of research would have no problem identifying potential candidates.
It's quite possible that the best candidate might be a University that was mentioned in passing but quickly dismissed.

Add Buffalo to the American? No thanks, I’d rather have a team we can beat once in a while.

It will be an instant rivalry, more than UConn ever was due to level of football.
Rivalries are a good thing.
