Why do you think there won't be radio for away games? They have for all the ones so far. And the upcoming games have links to listen on drexeldragons.com.

I get that it might be frustrating to not have the radio feed for the home games but at least for some of the schools there is the option to listen to the away feed. And though you might not like it since it used to be free, you do have the option to get the video feed to all home and away games every month for less than the price of the ticket to a single home game - so it is not like they are unavailable.

Sorry I meant home games. Radio for home games. That is frustrating. I understand the availability of the paywall for video. One would think both teams radio would be available for free regardless if it is a home or away game and regardless of whether it is on tv or not.

Drexel only has one set of announcers. I guess they don't want to put out a substandard TV audio stream that's hard to follow, since it's not true radio play by play. I know you like him, but personally if I had a choice of Rob Brooks or the other team's announcer, I'd choose the other team's guy.

I actually dont care one way or another as long as its not Dan Baker *ducks*. I think Rob does a reasonable job being impartial. Tubes can be hard to listen to on audio. Others in our conference are hard to listen to with how biased they are. The UNCW announcer did a good job.

I dont understand why we wouldnt broadcast the tv feed as radio, it wouldnt be that big of a deal, I wouldnt think. I fully understand we only have one set of announcers. I just dont recall in the past that having a tv game affected whether we had audio available or not. I could be wrong.

There's a reason why almost all professional sports teams have separate TV and radio announcers. Flyers Gene Hart and Dodgers Vin Scully were some of the exceptions. The TV viewer doesn't need to hear ever detail of what's going on in the game because they can see for themselves.

I was told by someone in Drexel's admin that the NBC Sports broadcasts had been in the works for several years, and NBCSP was watching Drexel's webcasts and was waiting for Drexel to get their broadcasts up to a certain quality level before they could be broadcast on their network. Having a radio play by play broadcast on a telecast sounds cheap. Even in the Flyers glory years, when Gene Hart did the TV/Radio simulcast, it sounded kind of strange when watching on TV.

If you want the TV quality audio to be streamed, I guess they could, but you'd probably have a hard time following it. For example, they wouldn't be giving the score ever 10 seconds because to score is on the screen.

If you look back on the Drexel portal on stretch internet, you can see they didn't have audio feeds for the games on NBC sports last year either. See for example the Northeastern game on March 2. You probably didn't notice because they still provided the video feed.

Out of curiosity I listened for a while without watching. It is harder to follow for sure, but I agree that if you didn't have anything else that it would be better than just following along on live stats.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the upcoming Elon game. If you look at the website they show them being on dragonstv and NBC-P+. I think they showed the same though for the UNCW game. It seems like at least they could be honest in their promotion. At least as of now, they do show links to listen for the last two games that are only on flohoops. So like JB mentioned above it is really just the nbc games and their requirements that eliminates the radio feed.

Northeastern has every home game except one on NESN or NESN Plus. They have one CAA home game not on TV for the second consecutive season. Of Delaware's eight CAA home games not on CBS Sports Network, half are on NBC Sports Philadelphia and SNY. SNY makes them available in New York and to people far away with satellite TV. Last season they had four of nine CAA home games are NBC Sports Philadelphia and SNY, so this season is similar. JMU, who didn't have any televised home games last season, has three of their eight CAA home games not on CBS Sports Network on RSNs. Two are on MASN and SNY, and one is on MASN2 and SNY. William & Mary has two CAA home games on Cox Yurview, which is a decrease from four last season. Their only game on CBS Sports Network was at Elon, so they don't have any home games on nation TV. To summarize teams other than you, Northeastern and Delaware are about the same, James Madison is on TV more, William & Mary is on TV less, and five teams have no home games on RSNs including Charleston, who used to have some games on local broadcast TV. As a Hofstra fan, it's disappointing not to have any games on RSNs. SNY is owned by NBC Sports.

I read that the CAA hopes to use revenue from Flo to pay CBS Sports Network to have more games on TV next season, albeit that won't help dan10.

It's interesting that you brought up Hofstra not putting any of their home games on TV. I'm not sure how old you are or how long you've been following Hofstra. But Hofstra was way ahead of the curve back in the 90's. They had their own local TV deal with the old SportsChannel and they broadcast most Hofstra home games, and even some road games. They even locally televised some America East Tournament games in Delaware back when the league didn't televise the quarterfinals. Back then, it was extremely rare to see mid-major games on TV at all. The reason why I have so many VHS tapes of Drexel games from the 90's, which I'm adding to my YouTube Channel, is because televised Drexel games were extremely rare back then, and I made sure to treasure those few televised games.

That breakdown seems about right to what I had said. Thanks Evan! As I said some were clearly using it to promote and get on tv, others arent and are seemingly pocketing it.

What leads you to think that individual schools are getting any of the Flo money? I'm pretty sure the way I heard it explained was that the Flo money was used to buy the CBSSN games. Part of the reason for going with Flo was to retain the rights for schools to show games on local TV (that would have been more difficult with ESPN). However, I haven't ever heard anything that suggests any of the money was available for that.

I could have interpreted it wrong. I had read it that the Flo money to the conference was spread to the schools with the intent of putting them on CBSSN and regional affiliates. I could be wrong and maybe the payment just went to the conference to buy CBSSN games. Either way, it is a good use of money by Drexel in attempting to give itself local visibility.

I don't remember the time in the America East, but home and road games combined I remember Hofstra going from 17 games on TV to 13 to fewer, and that's as more channels got created like ESPNU and conference networks. For years SportsChannel and MSG were pay channels I didn't pay for, including not being able to watch the Yankees. Hofstra used to have games on MSG with local pro-Hofstra announcers. When SNY was created; I thought three RSNs of MSG, Fox Sports New York (now MSG Plus), and YES were enough; but forgetting about the fact that SNY was created by the Mets, by being owned by Comcast (now NBC) it is good for the CAA. Even without Hofstra games, SNY has Delaware and JMU home games and Stony Brook Football home games. Being on TV is less important when I can watch everything online, but it's still nice to feel like you matter. At one point some CAA schools provided video (including you), and some did not. I remember when multiple sites didn't even have the score live for CAA games (I don't know if this was true for other mid-major conferences). The scores updated something like every ten minutes. At one point the CAA used in-game statistics that would play audio ads while I was watching or listening to games. Now the CAA uses StatBroadcast, which has a lot of detail and no ads or anything distracting. Being able to click on a player and get the log of everything he did is something I haven't seen for pro leagues. Before nonconference games, the two things I check are if there is free or ESPN Plus (which I pay for) video and if the statistics will be from StatBroadcast.

I read that schools are not guaranteed money from Flo, but are allowed to sell ads, so the amount of money varies from school to school.

I've always wondered about the ads. There is definitely a difference between the school in the kind of ads you see.

Out of curiosity...
I noticed that both games this weekend and the Towson game are listed on the schedule as being on DragonsTV. Does that mean that those games are available for free via the caa.tv app? I want to get a feel for how many games are available for free for people who don't want to pay for the Flo subscription.

Believe the Men's Elon game tomorrow and the Women vs. UD on Sunday are on the NBC Sports (whatever suffix) channel.

The UNCW game was advertised as Dragons TV but the feed never went live

UNCW game was picked up on NBCS-Philadelphia which is why it didn't go live. However the W&M game was free on caa.tv yesterday

RE: FloHoops Subs
For any of you who are refusing to pay to watch Drexel or other CAA games on FloSports out of spite of having to shell out the cost of dinner at a nice restaurant, keep this in mind.

I started watching Drexel Basketball in the 90's when the NAC had no TV contract. Wade Cablevision and DUTV would occasionally televise home games, but on tape delay. The reason why I have so many 90's Drexel games on VHS, is because TV was such a rare commodity and I wanted to capture few treasures. Thank goodness for YouTube that gives me a platform to share these tapes with the world.

Back in the 90's (I sound like the narrator on The Goldbergs and Schooled) if I wanted to follow Drexel Basketball on the road, it either meant ROAD TRIP...or tuning in to the voice of the great Pat Delsi and Art Hunter via the transistor radio quality sound on Superstation 1310 AM in Camden. Yes...Pat Delsi was also the owner and GM of this radio station, and yes, he did actually call his low budget AM variety station THE SUPERSTATION.

So thinking back to the 90's, I would have loved the opportunity to watch Drexel road games on TV, even if it meant paying a $12/month subscription. I would have done it in a second, even on a college student's budget. If you like Drexel Basketball enough, just pay the subscription fee. It's better than missing out entirely. It's not that much money in the grand scheme of things.

RE: FloHoops Subs
There is also the principle of the matter and whether our athletics or the conference deserves any support. It is not just strictly monetary. However, if you want to talk about money, you have to take into account people following smaller conferences like the CAA generally have funds already put towards better sports packages making their investment in tv (cable and streaming) already at record highs.

Even cord cutters pay a pretty penny to stream if they have upgraded access (most do). So picking a platform that still goes beyond what most have access to currently, is where the issue comes because thats another $12 a month on top of what is already being shelled out for sports packages. And that $12 per month is if you sign up for an entire year versus just the few months that basketball is happening. That's where moving from NBC Sports to CBS Sports has also missed the mark. NBC Sports is included with more packages than CBS Sports is, so you end up alienating even more fans. Flo does the same thing (except now a double whammy)
