Yeah, time to hang it up?
I'm not sure Roy wants to leave but it's a valid question you ask.
But to give the man his due, he will say if he does leave (and honestly and frankly so) that he is to blame for the slippage the last few years. Roy has his flaws (we all do). I don't find his "aw shucks/dadgum" communication style appealing, for example. But he is not insecure. He will criticize himself and is sincere about given opponents credit. John Calipari (for all his flaws) is similar. I respect Roy for that.
Admittedly, I'm a UNC homer.
I wouldn’t be upset if Williams stepped down and coached a few years at Elon.

RE: Laughable Scores--College Basketball--January
I think coaching is not Roy's problem, it's talent. The level of academic scrutiny is much higher due to the scandal coming to light and that is diverting some kids who otherwise would have been enrolled and graduated despite not really being able to do the work. The hold that the UNC ptb had over faculty and staff is not what it once was and fewer people are willing to stick their neck out for a kid with a suspect background. You need only lose one top 10-15 kid like this every other year for it to pile up and degrade what you have versus private schools that can do as they please and have no scrutiny. The situation atop UNC-Ch is not nearly as stable as it use to be and what has been done to Sylvia Hatchel is a primer for everyone over there.
If the faculty are not all in, there are too many leaks in the system to keep a moron on scholarship. There is too much social media to get the moron kid out the jam that dumber kids always get into. Duke, Wake, and to a lesser degree VT and Clemson can keep a tight lid on things, but in Clemson's and VT's case, spatial isolation is part of the solution. Duke and Wake are just more private than ND, BC, or Miami.

Shaka won 7 NCAAT games at VCU. He’ll leave Texas with none. An absolute mystery.

Not a mystery at all really. He left his Northeast recruiting grounds.

Well Virginia is pretty much Northeast from Alabama, but I get what your saying.

I wonder if he had moved to Texas A&M instead of Texas, would he be doing better? That it would be easier for him to recruit from his old territory since he would still be playing around it?

possible...
What's interesting is don't think there will be any openings in the AAC this season.... Maybe UCF if Dawkins decides to move on.

It won’t be for a few seasons I’m guessing, but I like Brad Stevens.

I don't see him returning to college.
It's interesting with guys like Williams..... They are such proud men... Could be either way-
1- not going to keep on going like this....
2- not going to leave this situation in this way.
my hunch is Williams is more #2.

I'm wondering if Wichita makes a run, is this where Marshall jumps off.
Or, if Ben Jacobsen finally makes a dent in the tournament with UNI. Had he not had that massive choke job a few years ago against TAMU, no way he's still at UNI today. Smart, coming down from above in the mix with others moving up...
Edit: Thinking about that AAC vacancy thing...I could see USF cutting ties with Brian Gregory after this season. It's an interesting year for the AAC, but I don't think it's one of their best. Sitting at the bottom of the conference rankings by this season's end is not going to go over well, I suspect.

Tulsa pleased their home fans by doubling Memphis 80-40. It was the biggest margin of victory by an unranked team over a ranked team from 2010-2011 to the present. That's as far back as the College Basketball at Sports-Reference Play Index goes. I may check individual team media guides by hand to go back farther.

Not sure USF would go the Texas path again.

Baylor was the most solid looking team out of the 10 on display. They have 2 inside defenders and a solid perimeter game.

Stevens would be a strong hire.
I want a man (college or pro coach) in the 40 to 52 age range. Some good ones:
Wolo at Marquette
S. Drew at Baylor
M. Rhoades at VCU
Wes Miller (UNC Greensboro would be intriguing but likely would be too young)
