That was really the difference in the game. If they shoot anywhere respectable from the line this is a much different game. Both teams had 21 field goals and we had 1 more 3 pointer. The problem is it took us 7 more shots to get those 21 at 36.2% (28.6% from 3). That was below our average of 39.7%, which ranks us at 327 in D1. And 29% from 3 ranks us 325.

DEFENSE!! CLAP CLAP DEFENSE!!

There isn't much hope getting thru a 3 day tourney, with this depth. I do enjoy watching the team, they started the season with poor chemistry, no heart and too little efford. I think most of that has improved, everyone knows they're an important piece of the team.

Depth over 3 days is overrated. The benches are always shortened anyway. We had people play whole game last year.

We have a 7-8 man rotation. Depth isn't the concern, its whether we make shots.

Makhtar Gueye #5 we were on him hard, had at less two visits. Thought we had him. Didn't see anything that we can't live without. That happen several recruits in a row, get a visit and right after they go elsewhere.

Tournament games they let them play. We are at risk with a small lineup, yesterday's game was proof of that.

We out rebounded them by 7. We can gang rebound like a mo fo. This league isn’t big at all. Especially w Bassey out.

We could win all these games or lose them all. Hardly any margin between most of these teams. La Tech has the best point guard in the league by far. That gives them the edge. They should win this league now. Everyone else is very close to each other. I could see ODU coming in 2nd or 12th lol

To start the game they were killing us on the glass, and then we started to get after it. Marshall has 10 players over 6-7, there are Marshall. Don't know which team is showing up. This three game road trip will be brutal, I'm certain Razor and the gang will be back.

Road games are going to be hard to win. There has been 14 games thus far and home team has won 12 of them. I bet most of the league finishes between 7-11 and 11-7. This conference is going to show how ridiculous it really is this year.

I like our “new look” team. Kalu has been thrust into a new roll, and he responded without question last night. Who didn’t enjoy watching him feed in the low post last night and pound the boards. Opportunity has knocked for Kalu and he responded!

I certainly enjoyed watching it last night. Whether someone thinks we are good or not, a true Monarch fan had to love the effort this team has shown since our mid season shakeup. Whatever was in Kalu’s head early in the season has left the building and we are all seeing the potential he flashed last season And Reece, Curry are looking more comfortable in their roles. Let’s go Monarchs!!!!

This game was one of the more enjoyable games to watch this season. The guys really got after it. In fact, I was surprised to see how bad the offensive numbers were after the game, because it felt like we played really well. Kalu played at a level we have yet to see from him, and that was great to see. I'm hoping X can settle into a more secondary role, and stop passing up wide open 3s. Oliver brings a ton of positive energy to the team and that is big for this group. I actually like what Alfis brings to the game. He moves the ball well, and the rest of the team seems to follow suit when he is on the floor. I was also impressed that we were able to keep the MT momentum going in a game where Wade was not able to score. This group will need to be able to play with that level of effort every night to compete at the top of the league, but if they can, I don't see any reason they don't finish near the top. Other than LT, who we typically own, I am not sure anybody looks any better.

And yet Blaine stated on many occasions the need to develop depth by playing people during the season to develop that depth. What does he know about it though right? You either have it or you don't have it BEFORE you get into the post season conference tournament.

It is also interesting that we heard many times how Blaine built his teams to be ready for post season tournament time - i.e. by having depth on the team and being able to use that depth effectively in a 3 game conference tournament. It also helps that by using a deeper bench a team isn't as worn out going into the tournament. Having other guys with experience to turn to in times of foul trouble, illness, injury, TRANSFERRING OUT, death in the family absence, disciplinary absence, etc. is never a bad thing.

As poor a shooting team as ODU is, they definitely don't want them shooting jump shots with tired legs under them during the season, or the post season.

I don’t see where we are not developing depth on this team. Sure Hunter has not played the last couple games but he has had some valuable minutes on the floor this year. Before the two transfers Jones was playing 8-9 guys every night giving someone a chance to step up. Reece was a good matchup against UAB with his size and athleticism and Wade was a good matchup against MTSU against a slower 4. Who knows how Hunter is practicing? I personally like to see Hunter play because he seems to have a lot of game. However, Coach Jones is scrapping to win games and he is playing the kids he thinks have the best chance to win. Looking back at last year, Reece wasn’t ready and he admits it. He wasn’t a bust of a recruit but needed to grow up a little. I hope Hunter stays with it and becomes a stud. With the changes in personnel X is playing the PG some and it gives us a good matchup in the back court plus more size. Hunter is the guy losing some minutes but he’ll get his chances if he keeps working.

I didn't say anything about Jeff not developing depth on the team. I was merely stating the need for this or any other team to have/acquire depth (and why) in response to Giles stating that depth was overrated. Even in a 3 day tournament depth can become an issue if one or two guys have to come out for any reason at all other than for a normal substitution and you have only developed 7 or 8 players to that point.

On another note, with no students in the house, I thought the crowd was pretty good.

Good energized crowd late in the game and a fun game to watch. Hopefully keeps them coming back.

They scored 0.95 ppp. Not earth shattering, but thats a decent offensive performance by our standards. Helped that we only turned it over 8 times.
