WBB Game 15: Charlotte (10-3, 1-1) vs ODU (11-3, 1-1), Military Appreciation Night
This Saturday at 2 pm the Monarchs will play the Charlotte 49ers. The 49ers are no strangers to ODU. We first played them back in 1985 when both schools were members of the Sun Belt. While ODU may have the all time series advantage, 14-10 since moving to Conference USA Charlotte is 7-5 against ODU. That includes a current four game win streak.

For the season, the 49ers are 10-3 including 1-1 in conference play. They have an RPI of 54 and SOS of 110. The team is coached by Cara Consuegra, now entering her 9th season at the helm. Currently she has 154 victories, which puts her second on the all time list of wins in 49ers history. She is 21 wins shy of tying former ODU assistant coach Ed Baldwin. (I have literally no idea what he is doing now)

Vs Gardner-Webb W 74-49 Record: 7-6 RPI: 199
Vs Richmond W 78-59 Record: 7-8 RPI: 108
@ Wake Forest W 77-65 Record: 9-6 RPI: 74
@ ECU W 59-47 Record: 3-11 RPI: 235
Vs Fordham L 51-76 Record: 10-5 RPI: 122
Puerto Rico Clasico
Vs Boston College W 84-68 Record: 9-6 RPI: 96
Vs Tulane W 60-56 Record: 6-8 RPI: 147
_____
@ #15/14 Kentucky L 39-86 Record: 12-3 RPI: 24
Vs Delaware W 61-57 Record: 4-9 RPI: 221
@ Davidson W 75-64 Record: 8-6 RPI: 116
Vs MD Eastern Shore W 64-44 Record: 1-11 RPI: 297
@ UAB W 83-75 Record: 7-5 (1-1) RPI: 131
@ Middle Tenn St L 59-83 Record: 9-5 (1-1) RPI: 49
@ ODU Record: 11-3 (1-1) RPI 47

I give the 49ers credit. Two regular season wins over Power Five schools. (Wake Forest and Boston College) The Kentucky game was basically over at the end of the first quarter, as they were down 29-9. Rhyne Howard scored 29 in that game for UK, and she is the nation's fifth leading scorer.

Currently Jade Phillips is one of two players in the conference who average a double double. She will occasionally shot form the outside to keep tams honest, but she is their star player. Linney is their outside shooter. Collectively they like to spread the ball around, as they have three players in the top 15 in assists. And they have a good bench with some height. (two 6'3" players) Overall it's a solid offensive team that is good in rebounding. With Hithe they have the best free throw shooter in the conference. She doesn't have enough FT's attempts to qualify, but her 93.3 percentage would put her third in the nation. Basically she is money at the line.

Just based off the stats this game should be fun. They are close in a lot of key categories. Nikki has been talking up this game. We have lost four straight against Charlotte. You know that doesn't sit well with Nikki. For ODU, this will be Military Appreciation night. So it would be great to pack the house in support of the Monarchs. ODU is playing at home where they are a perfect 6-0 this season. We have to defend our house!

Looks like a fun game, and a tough one. Wondering about Charlotte’s speed...if this is a team that likes to get the ball out quickly [/b]out and run. We’ll find out. Charlotte doesn’t have a lot of height in the starting lineup, so that’s a plus for the Monarchs.

This is one that the ladies need to win, not only to reinforce our home court dominance, but also to maintain the upward trajectory we're on. Wish I could be there to support. Monarch Nation in and around Norfolk, get over to Chartway Arena and help secure this much needed Dub for the good ladies! Go Monarchs!

Who is Jordan?

Jordan Bailey #2, 6-1, Fr, who has sparsely played any.

At half down 1, was down by 9.

Down 8 and then a 9-0 run puts ODU up by 1. 1 minute left!

Wow.. Today’s game was one of the most exciting i’ve seen in a long time. Monarch’s were down 8 late in 4th quarter. But they came back. Ashley Scott came up big, big down the stretch with a couple of free throws and a critical rebound. Others chipped in too. Good to see Ashley excel.

Didn’t see Vanessa Blagman or Jordan Bailey on the bench today. Blagman seemed like a good player. Hope she’s still with the program. Someone said earlier that Bailey might be transferring. Wish the best for her.

With 11 seconds left in regulation Taylor Edwards missed a lay up and Ashley Scott grabs the rebound. (Her 10th of the game) She gets fouled. ODU up by 1. Ashley steps up to the line and drains her first two free throw attempts of the season! Talk about pressure. Huge moment and she totally changed the final seconds of the game around.

Taylor finishes with 17 points, Morris, Adams, and Young all have nine on the day.

Great game for the ladies. Now we move our attention to Thursday's home game. Western Kentucky University. A school that we have NEVER beaten while in Con USA.

Much credit, of course, goes to the players. But I'm given the ultimate credit for that comeback to our terrific Coach.
