You may have forgot about Ohio State, but I don't blame you for doing so.
You are correct. I did include the loss in Fick's career record though. He's beaten UCLA twice, Va Tech, and Boston College but losses [road] to Meechigan and OSU. Looks like we have a good shot to beat Nebraska on the road next season pushing Fick's record to 5-2 overall. Again, not too shabby.

Ridder started as a redshirt freshman though; not a true freshman. Prater also is not graduating early and participating in spring ball. Tough to earn the job as a true freshman when you don't get in until camp.
UC NEEDED Des to step up last season and he did so very effectively. Next season Des and Bryant are more than capable so unless Prater is just beyond incredible in camp that's a gamble the coaching staff may not be willing to take coming off 22 wins in 2 seasons.
We all think we know that Des has hit his ceiling but maybe he hasn't. I'm not saying he is going to come back as the second-coming of Aaron Rodgers but maybe he improves quite a bit and becomes more than just a game manager and running QB.
On an OT note, I believe Des is getting married to his HS sweetheart this offseason. Never know how that could change his life and career!
As Woody Hayes put it many years ago...nothing like a warm little ass in bed next to you to take the edge off a good football player...
Ernie Banks disagreed with that when he was a manager - "I want my players married and in debt. That's how you motivate them."

Hudson would have helped immensely over what we had to use at LT but James being the highest rated lineman says a lot.
Finding solutions at the two guard positions and having Metz spend an offseason watching film on inside moves would be huge. Would be great to find a quality interior line grad transfer to solidify things with the addition of Hudson.

Don't include me in the "we all think" statement. I believe his passing can improve if he puts in the work and an improved/more settled offensive line can do wonders for the passing game overall. One thing to not underestimate is his running ability to complement his passing. Look at these numbers...
2018
149 ATT
583 YDS
3.91 AVG
5 TD
2019
144 ATT
650 YDS
4.51 AVG
5 TD
Career
293 ATT
1233 YDS
4.2 AVG
10 TD

RE: Thoughts On 2019 Football Season
I'm not out on Ridder's ability to improve, but they really need him to do that if they want to reach their potential next season. He needs to be more decisive with his passes. The biggest thing is he needs to start hitting the short/intermediate passes in stride. It's hard to sustain drives when you miss on so many of those.
If he can get the ball out on time and on target this becomes a really dynamic offense. (he needs more help from the receivers too)

Although he had a few blocked kicks, he did have a game winning field goal against ECU [can't remember if there were any more]. He certainly settled that position down and didn't seem to lack confidence.
He also had a game winner as time expired against USF.

I think Ridder would make a heck of a good running back. Have him throw from that position twice a game to keep the defense on its back foot.
He could even run the Wildcat.

He, somewhat quietly, put together a fine season. Extra points and field goals are critical elements for any team but it seems to me are especially important in a ball control offense that's going to run a majority of the time and burn clock. Who replaces him?

I was a running back coach and I wouldn't want Ridder in any capacity as a running-back. He strides are too long when running: It helps with gaining speed when not naturally fast but, takes away the ability to make sudden cuts and change in directions. he doesn't have "Burst": He get most of his yards by everybody leaving the pocket and opening space for him. Doesn't have quick enough feet: (please refer back to the strides are too long). Ridder has a hesitation step that throws people off because he has a funky uncoordinated running style (he always looks like he's about to fall) and he's a bit slippery.
Nothing about Ridder running says good runningback. He me may not be a bad possession receiver (don't know how good his hand are though).

Stop providing facts and experience to this board. The wannabe coaches with their video game and stats experience know far better- even better than Fickell.
