Do you think that can be accomplished with just the new DC current team and new incoming players

(Seems like the cut-off to a great season is less than 20 ppg. So we have to improve by 2 TD's per game on defense from 2019.)

I know we don't like talking about Ohio State on here, but OSU fixed their defense from one season to the next by simply getting a new DC and a philosophy change. Same players, minus those that graduated or went pro early.
That is true Brian. Would be nice if things can be corrected that fast. Funny we are always complaining about our coverage. And our DBs are finally turning their heads to look for the ball but everything else seems to have made a 180 on us.

Based on what I have seen in the past 2 years, I think we could cut the scores given up per game by at least 10 points, with 14 being a possibility. Our downfall was in the second half of the season - also a result of not scoring much and having some offensive time of possession. The defense can be helped out by the offense securing the ball, moving the ball, punting the ball. It is a total team effort and I do think we have some reasonable talent to do it (except at linebacker - which is a huge caveat to the talent claim).

We have also been horrid at blitzing. I watched the Clemson v. OSU game and the DC for Clemson (Venable) is a wizard at disguising his blitzes - and it creates nightmares for a very good offensive line at OSU. We need a guy that can think like that. We put too much pressure on linebackers and the DB's that have to try to cover receivers for something like 4-6 seconds on average, and then still allow the QB to take off and run for big yardage.

Short answer - maybe not improve by 14 points, but I would expect an improvement of at least 10 ppg. No reason not to expect that.

Indicates that Wright has taken with him to Pittsburg Jerry DiMinno (assistant recruiting coordinator) and Bryan Larson (grad assistant with O line.)
