I disagree on the talent. Tulane didn’t have an anybody on the field our guys couldn’t hang with athletically. Our coaching is just that atrocious.

Anyone here have faith in Coach Hop? Serious question.

No. But since the team finished with a winning record and got to appear in a bowl game that will probably mean Hopson gets a raise and extension. And we all know that the only thing important to fans is that we eek out a winning record each season and have a coach that will stay here forever. I wish he'd do the honorable thing and resign....but we all know that he won't. When we finish next season 3rd place in the division with an 8-5 record it will be considered a remarkable year.

Given that we’ve lost our last 3 games by 18, 17, and 17 points, I’m, er, optimistic the proverbial levee will break next year and we’ll be able to move on from this nonsense.

Trouble is, we have an even easier schedule than normal next year. So its easier to squeak out 8 (or more) wins and will make him look like the greatest of all time to some people.

South Alabama, Jackson St and Liberty SHOULD be wins. Not saying they will be, but I can see it. That's 3, then the weak-ass CUSA slate. Of course, he hasn't been able to beat these weak-ass CUSA teams the last 4 years so who knows. But can you fire him if he goes 8-4 next year (big if)? Can him now! He has had more than long enough to show serious progress and he hasn't.

We can only hope he is gone after next season. For money reasons alone Hopson will definitely be kept through next season. I think the line of thinking is that since he has a lot of seniors returning next year (Abraham, Watkins, etc.) he will be expected to come through with a huge season. Yet with his uninspired coaching he probably will have a season similar to this year. Yet if he manages to get a winning record be it 8-5 or 7-6 you ask if he will be fired? My guess is no since his contract is actually through the 2021 season.

For those of you who were masochistic enough to sit through the entire game, did you hear the announcers with two minutes left singing the praises of Hopson and how he finishes with "winning seasons"? It made my stomach turn. But they probably imagine we have low expectations at USM and are gushing with joy at having a 7-6 record.

You have to expect the “winning seasons” spiel. What pissed me off was the “don’t take this 2nd half as indicative of their season” bit. No, pal, it was absolutely indicative of the season. We watched essentially the same exact game vs. La Tech 2 months ago.

I’ll just leave this here.

Quote:Harris was lost a few series before Abraham. Hopson said the offensive game plan featured Harris substantially.

“That was the real big blow when 18 [Harris] went out,” Hopson said. “That was a good shot to us. You don’t expect injuries. We didn’t get traction after that.”

Traction was lost a long time before anyone went out. And one receiver shouldn’t determine your entire game plan.

You don't expect injuries? Was he expecting a game of touch football?

Quez declares for NFL draft. Not surprising considering his struggles in the classroom last Spring.

His coaching is getting worse. I have no hopes for anything more than 6 wins next year. Even that will be considered a great success by some. We are pathetic.

As it relates to my original post, Ill just leave this right here;

https://csnbbs.com/thread-891754-post-16...id16588398

"I don’t ever want to hear another person say Southern Miss can compete in the AAC because that was proven very wrong today. It was a beatdown and it was never even close. They might win a few games in that G4 conference but this is big boy football."

We have Coach Hop to thanks for this garbage.
