Texas State thread
Well, here we are in the New Year and we are doing better than I had expected.

The Bobcats are 7-6 overall and 0-2 in conference. Two of their wins are against non-D1 schools. They are 6-1 at home. Last time out they lost to Georgia Southern 86-69 in Atlanta. Their best win was at UNLV.

They likely will start 6-8, 6-8, 6-5 across the front line, and the tallest on the bench will be 6-8. So, we will have a size advantage, even with our short bench. However, that is a typical TSU roster.

They have two players averaging double figures, led by 6-5 senior Nijal Pearson at 17.8 ppg. He shoots a good many threes, and shoots them well at 35.7%.

As usual, what catches you eye with Texas State is their defense. They have a ten-point differential in overall FG% (48% to 38%). Danny Kaspar's teams are going to make you work for your wins. They are essentially even in rebounding.

Sagarin picks us by 4.
RealtimeRPI has us by 15.

Monyyong and Johnson are as good of a 1-2 punch on the boards as anyone in the conference.

Both of our big guys with double-doubles. Lottie with a really clutch performance down the stretch. This team keeps finding a way to win.

I'm really starting to like this team. Actually, I like and support our guys no matter what. But these guys have grit and are fun to watch. Marquis misses most of the second half against ULL due to fouls- no big deal- other guys pick up the slack until he comes back in to hit the game winning 3 pointer. Today, he fouls out with us down 5 points- no big deal- Jaczec does a great job handling the point and hitting key free throws to help us win again.

Our attendance has been terrible for years. It may be down some, but I just think the new administration is putting out actual numbers rather than making them up. I expect the same the next 2 games, but maybe it will pickup once school is back in session. I hope someone out there has some ideas how to get more folks to the games, because I am out of ideas (not that anyone ever took my advice anyway). I think they should start by getting rid of Saturday games at 2 pm. We always drew better at night in the past. If you want day games, at least, make them at
4 pm so you can go to dinner afterwards. We would invite another couple to Saturday games and plan to go to dinner afterwards if they were at 4 pm. When a game ends at 4 pm, it's too early to do that.

The quality of the broadcasts on ESPN plus are usually really good. I'll watch our men's road games, unless I choose to go the women's game in Little Rock. I seriously doubt more than a handful of our local fans our watching our home games on ESPN plus. If folks were interested enough to do that, they'd just come out to the Stephens Center. While having just about every DI college game available to watch at home is nice, I do think it hurts attendance, at least, at mid-majors.

RE: Texas State thread
Not sure if this team is mentally tough, for coming back from all these deficits, or mentally weak for the constant slow starts.

Either way, it’s going to bite us in the ass in the long run. Also either way, I’m enjoying this team and the improvement they’ve made. I’m encouraged for the future.
