We could schedule better if we really wanted to. The schedule is more about wins and job security than making NCAA tournament.

Sure, but some scheduling is just the way things are done throughout college basketball. For example, the game after Christmas is almost always a game against a much lesser opponent - lets players get reacclimated after Christmas break and before conference starts. For games leading into particularly difficult portions of the schedule they allow the team to work on some things(which sometimes leads to upsets as teams look ahead). So, there are always gonna be at least 3 games against very subpar teams. Also allows for (winnable) home games.

Of course, there is a point where there are too many of these types of games.

What more are you looking for in this schedule? A home game against a ranked opponent was huge, and I love that they challenged themselves by going to Texas & Kentucky. They even had a neutral site game against a previously undefeated opponent (Duquesne is probably at least a top-100 KenPom squad). I'm disappointed that some of the rumored stuff fell through, but still thought this was a pretty good schedule for a team that hasn't made the dance since 2015, and was picked to finish #6 in their conference.

We could go all Georgia on our scheduling and still have a tough time getting the RPI to where it would need to be for an at large bid.

So do you go all Georgia or just do as you are doing?

As the saying goes, "It takes two to tango". UAB may be scheduling the best that we can get to come to Bartow Arena as we are playing now.

That applies to conference invitations as well. The last I heard here, UAB is in the only conference we have been invited to join, and that was when Gene Bartow was our leader (and we nearly got booted from C-USA in 2015 with no where else to land).

Since THE RETURN UAB football has done very well. Has any one heard of a P5 opponent agreeing to play the Blazers in B'ham?

UAB is not doing the best it can schedule-wise... I know it to be the truth. They are sticking with the long-running philosophy of a certain number of buy games/home games. That was okay in C-USA 1.0, but not today. If we want to a better schedule, we are going to have to give up some of these sick NAIA and DII games and go home and home with some decent mid majors. But hey... don't mind me, the empty seats speak louder than I do.

The problem for UAB scheduling is philosophy... They feel like they have to schedule a certain number of home games, which is on par with many P5 schools. We are not there, we need to follow the lead of other good midmajors.

It would help to schedule more into the future and not just for the upcoming season...

I am not arguing with any of you since some may have greater inside info on scheduling than
I have. You may know of some "decent mid majors" who have come knocking on the UAB AD's door. asking for home & home contracts. If that is the case, the AD is negligent in his job. If not, we are wrong in being critical of our scheduling since UAB can't make any teams play us.

But I think we're at the point now where we don't get that unless:
1) UAB wins the conference. Then better teams will be begging for games
2) Someone on the coaching staff has some pull/connections
