RE: New asst Football coaches thread
Syracuse alum, who is also part of a large sports agency, gave an interesting nugget about Landan Salem.
He is very strong statistically/analytically and has recruiting DBs (databases) which he 1st built years ago when a teenager. His gfather was a D1 HC and his father a longtime D1 assistant - a coaching family.
My friend said that thru Salem's work Syracuse was starting to get foreign born recruits (sons of US Servicemen) - I think he said their 1st early signee this year was from Germany and I believe he said 3 so far being redshirted, etc. but had just gotten the momentum going last year.
Interesting - Memphis has a really good image internationally. Who knows. Maybe a different avenue to recruiting more size - the kid from Germany he thought was 6-5 or 6-6 projected as a DL. Also probably a little more mature on average as well.

The hires have looked real good to me. Even if they see it as a stepping stone we should still benefit.

That is an interesting path for this team to pursue. I believe it was said during one of the games with Cincy that Metz was from Germany. Like you said maybe that can be a path to getting more size.

He’s got a good staff... the challenge for a 1st year coach managing former HC’s is knowing how to lean on them for guidance while still being their boss.
That being said, Ryan sure seems like the kind of guy you’d want to work and play for...

Yeah, when I ran across the tweet about him, I looked up his Syracuse bio. He has seemed to specialize in recruiting admin in his young but impressive career.
