RE: Bowl TV ratings
Per the top 10 thread, top game in the regular season had 16.64 million viewers. All of the top 10 exceeded the Cotton Bowls 6.22. However, that would probably be top 20.

I know the time slots can make or break ratings, but even so it's still a surprise to see EMU-Pitt up there.

There was Zero competition that night tv wise. It was a bad, bad tv night. It was like the only thing on.

RE: Bowl TV ratings
For comparison, each of the NFL wild card games had at least 5 million more viewers than even Clemson-Ohio State; two of them had over 10 million more viewers.

Bills-Texans 26.3 million viewers
Titans-Patriots 31.4 million
Vikings-Saints 29.9 million
Seahawks-Eagles 35.1 million

It was a good game

It was worth it if only to see the EMU coaches wearing their mechanics coveralls.

People probably though their mascot was an emu so they tuned in to see it.

Auburn / Minnesota would have been more highly rated but it was going head to head with Michigan / Alabama which admittedly was a much more compelling match up. That's the problem with viewing numbers in the noon slot on New Year's day. Right now 3 bowls are played in that time slot.

ND/Iowa State went up against Memphis/Penn State as well, I believe.

Pitt-EMU was a competitive game till the end and the nice crowd added to the aesthetics on TV. It looked and felt like a big time game when you were watching it. Hate it ended the way it did.
