I think that the land belongs to his roommates family. Pretty far fetched argument that it is an extra benefit.

Yep, all these comparisons just prove to me that if Penny would have been a bit more diligent and ensured he dotted his i's and crossed his t's, this never would have been an issue. Plenty of loopholes and other paths that would have led to the same result without the penalties attached.

If so, then you're exactly right. It's a non-issue.

But the stuff I read indicated it was an "anonymous" land owner. If it was tied to the roommate, surely that would have been mentioned.
