Usually you have to win first before the fans show up. UMKC has no history of winning.

NMSU football averaged 17,905 in home attendance in 2019. It must be the winning tradition.

No doubt other FBS conferences are beating down your AD's door for NMSU to join.

FWIW, Sagarin ratings show Summit league at 20th in conference ranking in basketball. The WAC is listed at 24th.

You do remember that the Summit invited us to join.

Umkc in the Summit makes perfect sense. I never understood why they were in the WAC in the first place. With Umkc leaving and adding Tarleton State and Dixie State the league is finally a true western league with the exception of Chicago State who I see dropping to division 2 sooner than later. Not to hijack this thread but is there any REAL talk of another school joining the league? You can stay out of this NorthDakota wac theory monger.

I'm confused. I thought Frank would be here gloating about a 3 point victory at home against a conference foe that was picked 8th out of 9 teams and playing without their leading scorer and rebounder.

We got complacent in the second half and UMKC was thirsty for that win! They sure did challenge us and I hope our guys understand that. If the 8th team can play us, at home, within 3, then we damn well play our asses off for the rest of the season.

I gave UMKC credit. I said they made 13 3's tonight. Awesome!

But it still wasn't enough and NMSU pulled out the win. A win is a win, doesn't matter if it's by 1 or 30. NMSU now 3-0. One step closer to that WAC Championship.

I was in Las Cruces this last weekend for the NMSU game against UMKC. Even down to the last minute I was never comfortable with our lead. Partly due to our sloppy play but I felt our sloppy play was a result of the Roos defensive intensity. Don’t anyone sleep on KC. That team has some heart. They’re gonna be tough at home and will pick up some wins on the road.

I still think we (NMSU) takes the WAC but I won’t be surprised if we drop one or two on the road. The Seattle and UVU road trip always gives us headaches.

I’m disappointed in seeing GCU slide. Playing them in their sold out house and seeing the fan base they bring to our house always makes for a great atmosphere.

UMKC was super impressive. I like their new coach a lot. I think they will be much better than 8th in the league this year when it's all said and done.

Based on decreased GCU student attendance at the CBU game, I wouldn't count on nearly as many charter buses making their way to LC this season.

The novelty of having a celebrity coach, a nice state of the art arena, and an almost NBA quality event for every home games is starting to wear off with the Havoc. None of it matters without the wins. And, GCU needs the big wins to keep to this train rolling. With Majerle's lackluster coaching performance, he has all but wasted all the purple koolaid and the hangover is starting to set in with the fans.

Getting a little nervous, eh?

Due to some family issues I'll probably have to watch it on WDN instead of witnessing the biggest home game of the year in person. For us, it'll depend on whether Jackson and Varner are *both* going full speed on the same night, usually it's one or the other and that's not enough to take out NMSU. On your side I think McCants and/or Aurrecoechea will give us trouble. We foul a lot and they'll be getting a lot of FTs.

Looks like we're playing without Javon Levi tonight, so I think that balances your loss of Queen. Your other missing starters have been missing all along.

Where was Levi?

Right now, NMSU holds a 2 game lead on the rest of the WAC. Just based on what I've seen, I think NMSU can still finish with a 13-3 conference record (or better) despite losing Queen for next 6 weeks (hopefully less). I think NMSU can win the rest of their homes games (6 in total) if they play well. Really the games in question are the three road games at UMKC, CSUB, and Grand Canyon.

So, with the rest of the WAC having two losses or more already, no WAC team can afford to lose more than one more game the rest of the way and still have any hope of catching NMSU for the WAC regular season championship... and that is "if" the Aggies drop a few road games; with their depleted roster. If NMSU losses any home games, then the door opens for the rest of the WAC teams.

So far in conference, Cal Baptist has lost two home games, Cal State Bakersfield has lost two home games, Grand Canyon has lost two home games, UM Kansas City has lost two home games, Seattle U. has lost one home game, UT Rio Grande Valley has lost one home game, Utah Valley lost one home game, and Chicago State has lost four home games... NMSU hasn't lost a home game in the WAC since February 23rd, 2017 to Utah Valley; and that was a Paul Weir lead Aggie team. Prior to that, a Menzies led Aggie team last lost a WAC home game January 26th, 2012 to Nevada. In total, NMSU is 101-9 at home since joining the WAC (2005-06). Against the current WAC members, NMSU is 45-1. Jans has yet to lose a WAC home game.
