I don’t support chopping Bass for ONE bad hire. Especially since his first hire brought massive success. That’s a .500 record and should provide him at least one more chance.

One bad hire spirals the longer he keeps him. I’d argue the financial hurt from another CB season would come close to offsetting his salary

Thought the same thing until I looked up Buzz’s buyout. We paid him out 400k a year for final 2 years. CB would be 300k a year for final two years if I’m not mistaken.

Edit: Misread the article. Buzz only had one year left. Looks like another year but I don’t see how you can recruit unless you show major improvement in CAA play.

I agree, but overall as AD, he’s been quite good IMO. The CB hire was monstrously bad... but he deserves a shot to fix it.

Agree, that was my point if he can’t figure out a way to fix it he will fall in the sword too.
While I agree the results have been mostly positive, his one bad hire has pushed his revenue streams into the tank

Glad to see what some here are finally realizing what I knew and tried to tell them 3 years ago at the expense of being threatened with banning repeatedly.CB is a very nice guy.....but sucks as a Division 1 mens basketball coach. Better cut the losses asap before it destroys the program. In retrospect the bankroll should have been thrown towards Takayo Siddle and things would have been much better instead of thinking the UNC connection was going to somehow pay off.

Stop trying to play that card. It was never about what you said but how you said it. You weren’t the only one that didn’t like the hire. Others here said the same things since it happened. Others have also been warned about how they interact on here, including a few who I value as friends and respect greatly.

I’m not ever going to tout myself as perfect. I have my flaws too. However, some folks need to be reminded from time to time that their actions have consequences.

No message here is going to be silenced, but it’s how those messages are conveyed that will carry penalties.

Yep. I remember you once called me out for trying to play the "victim card". And guess what? You were absolutely correct.

Hell, Seahawkhoops used to get weekly warnings. lol.

To your point about Takayo Siddle... he’s just as unproven as McGrath was. Would he have been better? Maybe. Would he have been the same? Maybe. Would he have been worse? Maybe. He’s still not a HC anywhere so it’s an all around unknown.

To say “things would have been much better” is baseless conjecture.

Lol.

See Gray?

Look. I’m not perfect, but I try.

I will say that folks that comment on these boards concerning multiple topics regularly get a little more leeway. Obviously, they still get called out from time to time. And the regulars around here have called me out from time to time. Publicly and in PM. It’s what makes a quality group be a quality group. Along those same lines, we are all naturally curious and skeptic of new accounts that pop up around significant moments in our program and only comment on one topic. They get less leeway.

That’s how this system works.

You’re still welcome here, and not being banned proved that. Just saying.

Thank you sir. I learned from one of the best, and thankful to have cut my teeth as a UNCW boards newbie in the CAAZone back when this was a legit good conference and we had a lot more action from conference mates like ODU, VCU and George Mason. I remember a number of times when I was a student that yourself and others here cut my tongue and told me to cool off a bit.

Proof there’s hope for everyone! Lol

Funny you used the word system

Hiring Siddle would have been a risk, but at least we would have maintained our system and been able to build off a foundation as opposed to abandoning what was working

I don't recall anyone that campaigned for McGrath when the search was going on. The only person that I know of that unequivocally wanted him as HC is Bass. During year one, I defended C.B., as I thought some were too critical because of his UNC background. Whether they were unfairly critical or not, I don't mind saying that I was wrong and it it seemed obvious pretty early in year two that he wasn't the guy.

RE: Fire McGrath - Official Thread
Whether it is this year or next year there is sufficient evidence that he won't be successful. The program is actually in disarray and hopefully Bass makes a change after the season. I know it is on a much larger scale but people said the same thing about UNC football and the huge buyout. The donations and ticket sales have more than made up for paying a guy to stay that you know is not capable of doing the job and I have reached that conclusion on CB.

Agree. That summed up nicely the last two years for me. I was wrong as well. I really wanted him to succeed and prove me right... but it’s a lost cause.
