RE: NCAA rankings: Total Offense and Total Defense

Even Garrick McGee managed to get his offense to #50 in 2013. UAB's was #98 last year, and #105 this year. If the offense was anywhere close to as good as the defense, we would not lose over 1 or 2 games playing this kind of a schedule. Some of us like offense too.
McGee was getting his teeth kicked in too. Plenty of bad teams have respectable offenses, because it’s a lot easier to move the ball down 30 than it is up 3. I’m not saying our offense was flawless this year, because it was far from it, but statistics can be misleading.

The different QB's, offensive lines, WR core, & RB options kept us from totally figuring it out.
With that said, Clark wasn't born yesterday and realizes that defense by itself isn't going to win you games (however it probably could definitely lose you games with a weak one)
Going overboard and complaining about the offense when we have just had another pretty good season seems to be pointless.
Well. The point of the original post was to take a brief, simplistic look at outcomes vs the field. I, too, remember years of losing seasons. Im thrilled with the Return. Three consecutive bowls and a championship are phenomenal.
That said, i believe UAB under Bill Clark can achieve even greater success on the field in the coming years. I enjoy watching the team and individual players grow and progress.
I also believe that as fans we can enjoy analyzing the season and the state of the program. That will include observing that certain aspects of the team need improvement, perhaps significant improvement. Some fans will express their observations more constructively than others. We will regularly disagree with some of each others amateur opinions. Totally normal.
Fact is the UAB offense needs significant improvement if the program is going to continue to progress and grow, and win more championships. UAB overachieved. And the gap between UAB and FAU was wide this year. Both were true.
Is it complaining to discuss that on a fan message board? I dont see it as complaining, but if some do, then OK. I see it as doing what a message board does. Sharing amateur observations and opinions for entertainment purposes.
What I think or say means nothing in reality. It just entertains me to think and talk with others about something Im passionate about. Because Im passionate I can both enjoy and appreciate the progress and success, while simultaneously talking about the flaws and needed improvements. They are not mutually exclusive.
Fans with high expectations and belief are a good thing, folks. Relax and enjoy. Even better days are ahead if just a few more pieces fall into place.
i love your post
dont forget the depth chart for next year :)
