Agreed. Without both we could easily lose out also. I don't know how things will turn out with Hermanovskis and/or Ayesa having to play starter minutes. Puts a lot of pressure on Luke if he needs to bring it up the court AND play lock down defense. Getting one or both back for the tournament is essential. Three weeks to heal is pretty much time.

Coach Fischer just said on his coach’s show that Bryce Barnes was back at practice today and was good to go for this weekend’s games. As he said, this is great news.

Huge. I hope he really is good to go and we dont rush him. Rather him sit and be ready for DC.

Coach’s comment about Bryce was the last thing that he said before Jay signed off. He gave the strong impression that Bryce was fine. He did not comment on Thornton.

TBH, I wouldn't mind getting extra time for Rainers or Miguel right now. We need them to be as experienced as possible for DC, and extra rest time for the starters is also very beneficial right now. This is the time of the season where we have had a lot of hamstring and wear-down type of injuries. 3-5 minutes less for high minute players is a really big deal. I'd also like to see Quinn getting an extra 5-10 per game because it means somebody else is resting extra. It's a pipe dream of everyone on this board, but I'd especially like to see 5 minutes a game from Harvey. Winning games for seeding is important and winning the conference (if we have a chance) is worth going after, but starters playing 25-30 instead of 30-35 is a worthwhile target for the next two weeks.

Absolutely terrific news about Barnes! The team that showed up against Delaware (with 5+ extra mins of Nate with better refs) has a chance to beat everyone in the league.

Barnes was sensational the past two games...penetrating, dishing, defensively, and controlling the offense with Luke.
His speed was David Cohn-like and he played at an extremely high level.

Great to hear the news he's ok.

Bryce's health is all speculation of which none of us know. I fondly recall, during the fall of 1946, many fans speculated on Mickey "Fabulous Fumbler" McKowsky's health only to learn that he, indeed, had lost his opposable thumb in an undergrad swim test accident.

RE: CAA Men's Basketball Tournament 2020 - Washington, DC
I agree that it would be great if starters are able to play 30 minutes max and we are able to win at least 2 out of 3. That would set us up well for the tournament.

I also agree with The Moderator's tongue in check comment that we don't know if Barnes will be close to 100% or not and able to play at the level he has the last couple of games or if he will play at a lower intensity level because he is hampered by a nagging injury. Here's hoping that Scott's boot comes off in February as well.

In particular I would love to see Ayesa and Blair get extra minutes. I also share the Harvey pipe dream...

Will not happen, winning now is important, after this week, the team will only play 1 game in 15 days, before the tournament, plenty of time to rest then.

Fischer has seemed to be pretty muted when it comes to injury reports. After initially describing Scott's previous injury as a lower leg injury, he never really commented on it further until Thornton was about ready to return. That being said, why would he end his radio show, without even being asked, by sharing the "great news" that Bryce was back at practice and ready to go, if his status was up in the air. I think that I am going to allow the "great news" to have a positive impact on my mood until at least Thursday night when the lineup proves me to be a fool.

Maybe he said that about Barnes in order to get Towson to waste time preparing for him instead of spending time on how to foil Barnes' replacement? Fischer doesn't strike me as that kind of coach but, on the other hand, we have all seen that before, elsewhere.

CAA Men's Basketball Tournament 2020 - Washington, DC
W&M coach Dane Fischer said PG Bryce Barnes has been cleared for full practice and is expected to play Thursday at Towson. Thornton Scott seems less certain but possible. “A lot’s going to depend on what he can do over the next three days.”

It is pretty sobering to think that our guys are probably going to have to play three games like the one against Delaware on consecutive days in DC in order to cut down the nets. Don't know if my heart can take it.

That is why getting the #1 or #2 seed is so important. Play the first game against a lower level team who is already tired from playing the day before. Get that win while somewhat resting the starters goes a long way to winning the next two games in two days. Meanwhile, all the other teams except the other top seed are playing harder, more exhaustive games against fresher opponents.

Just updating the bracket with three games to go:

1st Round
Drexel vs UNCW
Elon vs JMU

Quarters
Hofstra vs Drexel*
Charleston vs Towson
W&M vs Elon*
Delaware vs Northeastern

In terms of who is coming in hot:
Hofstra on a 7 game winning streak
Delaware has won 8 of last 9 games
Elon has won 3 consecutive CAA road games and 5 of last 6 games

Based on the current bracket, we would be facing potentially all three.

The only certainty for the Tribe is that we will not play Saturday and will finish in the top 6. Win out and we are Guaranteed at least a 2 seed.

The way Elon has been playing lately, they may very likely avoid the Keener round entirely. We better take them very seriously in our last game.
