I don't care if you love liberty or the falwells for what ever reason. I just said i don't want to see ODU associated with some one like Liberty and the message board police came out in full force to preach tolerance. Again they have money, they have a plan to improve their athletics with that money so good for them. I just don't want ODU to be associated with them in anyway is all i am saying. Party on with the Liberty Love. Merry Christmas fellas.

That is like saying I don't want ODU to be associated with UVA due to their left wing ideology.

As for endowments, check out Harvard, Yale and the Ivy league. They just don't spend their money on sports. If Harvard decided to go to big time football, they would be able to compete at the P5 level.

Oh gee that's not what i am saying. No comparison between UVA and Liberty and i can't believe you are even comparing them. If we don't have intentions or hopes of going big then lets not waste money on being even D1 and drop down to D3 or what ever the crap that is and spend the least possible on athletics and just have them as eye candy is what i meant. Harvard, Yale and entire Ivy league are a different story and we are no where close to them in terms of academic reputation so no point comparing apples and oranges.

Stop trying to force Falwell's Farces on us.

Just stop.

Agreed - there is a reason CUSA turned them down. They come with a ton of baggage and a heavy political tilt toward a certain individual. But, I agree, they do have deep pockets.
I mean, damn near every other school has a serious political bent, only in a different direction...screw diversity of thought, I guess, forget about universities being places where people share and debate all kinds of ideas, I guess. Wall that garden and make sure that anyone who strays from the officially sanctioned ideological standard is silenced. You don't have to agree with certain ideas to understand that this great nation was founded, and has prospered, under the idea that all ideas are worthy of being spoken, and debated, and debunked if they are ill founded.

Liberty doesn't share or debate anything. It is as closed off as any institution can be. Be a conservative evangelical or don't come.

Much like UVA. Except at UVA, only liberals are allowed. Any diversity of thought outside the liberal dogma is forbidden.

Okay 07-coffee3 I really didn't know UVA only admitted liberals and i really don't think any college admits students based on their political affiliation. The only ones i know are the ones that prefer certain demographic are religious schools and the likes of HBCU's and those vary by country and location.

Man, talk about a tale of two different programs! They are historically a very weak program in a lousy stadium next door to a BIG school. They get zero publicity, and yet here they are, significantly ahead of us ( for the time being)

Are you still talking about Liberty? Their stadium is way better than ours and they are more well known too. Maybe for controversial stuff sometimes, but it’s still publicity. And you can’t ask for a more engaged student body. The kids that go there have bought in and believe in building the “Protestant Notre Dame”. Too bad it seems ODU has given up on being a VT on the coast. Being in a conference w LU would be fine. It’s just sports. They won’t convert you if you don’t want to be.

Not given up, but instead the Cox legislation made any thought of that virtually impossible before it could get any traction.
Not discussed, but just as problematic is how the Cox Bill negatively affects our ability to provide competitive compensation for MBB as well.

We have the largest budget in CUSA. Sure, it would be easier with more money, but money is not the root of our problems.

Let me clarify. UVA will admit others besides liberals, but once you are there, any straying from the liberal dogma is not tolerated. Check out how much UVA funds liberal student groups as compared to conservative student groups. Not even close. Like comparing what Texas spends on football to CNU.

Anything you can point us to prove that? If that is true i wonder what is the makeup of that funding at ODU.

RE: The Regional Conference
I know there are posters on here that really would like to see ODU competing on this level but count me in with the many donors that post less and stay offline who interested in something that could be more program-respected over time. After watching La Tech completely zero out a P5 offense last night in a bowl game (meaningless to some here or not), I'm still on board with ODU needs to step up and compete harder to win like La Tech is and several others are CUSA.

To think that after all the fundraising over the years that ODU would end up in a league like the list above would make me barf. It would affect my athletics giving for sure.

I agree 100%.

I am going to close this thread, at least for the time being.
The political assertions from BOTH sides are neither appropriate to this forum nor are they for the most part factual.
