Me plus eight for now, not sure how many in the extended group. It’s the fourth natty for most of our group, third for the rest, including a few that married their way into JMU fandom.

So I booked a flight while at the game after a couple adult beverages and I just realized my connecting flight in Charlotte has a 35 minute layover. How f***** am I?

You’re fine. CTL is easy.

Yep, those are the layovers I desire. I know you're saying but what if there's a delay in the first flight. Worry about that if it happens which is like maybe a 5% chance. Early morning flights are rarely delayed, it's from noon on when things can back up.

3rd Natty for me. Did make the Lehigh and W&M playoff games in 2004 though.

I concur with the others. I used to connect in Charlotte from Richmond quite frequently when I was traveling for work. It’s a small airport and like others said, early flights aren’t usually where you hit delays. You’ll be fine.

Glad these posts are reassuring. Unfortunately I am leaving RIC directly after work so it is an evening flight. There is another flight out of CLT if I miss my connecting flight thankfully, so I’d have another shot.

We did that when we went in 16. Only complication was the freaky weather. Felt like we were the last flight to get out of Charlotte ahead of snow. As has been said, not a layover that's particularly known for problems.

RE: Roll Call: Frisco
I connected through Charlotte a couple of months ago and each time I was delayed quite a bit, sitting on the runway in the queue waiting for our plane to liftoff. A couple weeks ago I also had connections in Charlotte and dreaded my quick connection. Both times I hurried from one end of the airport to the other and lucked out that the connections were delayed and I was able to make them. I’ll go with the direct flight whenever possible, and lucky for me I’ll be headed out of BWI on direct flights.

Also remember connecting through Charlotte many years ago and a slight snow storm had the airport crippled for days and no local hotels had any rooms.

3rd natty for me too - made all the 2004 playoff games (thanks MRDs), will never forget those one-point wins and the W&M game.

I did go to Leigh - with mom and brother who was a freshman at Longwood and I was still trying to convince him to transfer to JMU. Mom and bro also went to W&M game - they still claim this to be the best game of their lives.

Those 7 off-tackle right attempts to finally score the go-ahead TD...torture for everyone who was there that day.

Having spent more time in the Richmond and Charlotte airports than I care to talk about......either check a bag (if your stuff doesn't get there until the next day because it missed the connection it's not the end of the earth) or pack a small enough bag to be able to carry it on no matter how small your plane out of Richmond is. What will really mess you up is if you gate check your bag in Richmond and have to wait for it to come back to you planeside in Charlotte. Sit as far in the front of the plane as you can. You want to be able to get off the plane as quickly as you can and get moving.

Also check your gates. If you are staying on the same airline it can be very close but it can also mean running from one end of the airport to the other.

Best of luck!

RE: Roll Call: Frisco
in '17 I used my Delta points to fly my 4 person crew to Frisco out of Richmond with a connection in ATL. More than half our plane out of Richmond was wearing purple. Since we barely made our flight to Frisco in '16 because of weather delays I upgraded our crew to Delta Comfort in '17. We landed late and did the Hartsfield Hustle to get to our connection. Only reason we made it was because we were one of the first folks off the plane. We were the last to board our connection and I told the flight attendant and the pilot we were the first of probably 50 trying to make the connection but they closed the door anyway. After that I will always give us at least a 90 minute connection for this trip.

+5 coming with me. 18 total Dukes rooting in our group.

I’ll be in Texas for 26ish hours so just bringing a backpack to Stowe underneath seat. Also planning on springing for a seat upgrade up front. With that said, leaving RIC late is gonna screw me.
