USA Today. We spend more than UTC, WCU, Citadel, UNCG, and VMI on athletics. Privates not listed. But, could it be these small privates in the SoCon , especially Furman and Wofford, have larger athletic budgets than ETSU? Looks like we’re not getting our money’s worth in football, especially since our athletic spending has been tiered?

Yes next year will be telling. There is no excuse for us not winning the the SoCon. No excuse.

What argument do you have with the solid point Yosef Himself made above in post #3?

I mean.........I share your disappointment..........but the odds are stacked fairly heavy in the Southeast. Yes, the SE has a lot of good players - but a lot of anglers are vying for the same fish in the same fishin' hole.

Oh no - no argument with Yosef. It’s a numbers thing and the proliferation of college football across the SE, the antithesis of the famous 2003 Paul Stanton prediction. Yes, frustration and disappointment definitely being expressed here. So, how can ETSU use better bait to attract the bigger fish in this pond? Does JMU, for example, pay the stipend, offer other perks out of that huge FCS budget? Jacksonville State, for example, seems to usually catch the bigger fish. And, then there’s little ol Wofford and smallish Furman in our league seemingly out recruiting ETSU. Or, as many have asserted on here — do we have a coaching problem?

I'm sure money has something to do with it; no doubt. And coaching - maybe. But I think it's also that our program is so young. You can't show a recruit: "Hey, look how often we make the playoffs. Look at our history." That angle can't be change quickly.
As others have said, next year will be very telling.

And I'm still waiting on someone in the local media to corner paulie and ask him what he thinks of his prediction, or what he thinks of the full stadium on campus.

I hate to say it, but the only conference team, IMO, the Bucs have a legitimate chance to beat next year is W. Carolina.

Good transfers and grad transfers capable of starting would be the only way Bucs could hope to be a mid tier team next year. There is not enough experienced/talent to fill all the holes especially on the D. We all know how woeful the offense was and the Bucs lose ar least 4 O starters and have a pass only QB, with 5 backups with practically no experience.

VMI and Mercer could also be wins.

And Georgia, of course.

This North Dakota State — Montana State game makes the TV visuals of many of these FBS bowl games look like Saturday morning Pop Warner ball.
