You'd have to think that with all the hype around Trey Lance nationally right now, such as Todd McShay ranking him fifth in the country for next year's draft... he's as good as gone after this season.

About 2 months ago I rewatched about a quarter of the NC.

I was planning to watch the last three quarters last weekend. I only got 1/2 way through the 2nd quarter. Got annoyed because their fans sounded louder. By September I will have re watched the whole game.

I wouldn't pay any attention to predictions from a former RU QB...

The way to fix this is to get more of our fans to buy Frisco tickets in August.

Keep watching, it picks up in the 2nd once the 1000s of JMU fans make it through the 2 security guards screening them and they actually make it to their seats...07-coffee3

But remember, those guards are doing such a half assed job at checking people that they may as well just be letting them walk right in.

Watched (endured) the highlights replayed again this morning on ESPNU.

Players have to make the plays, but to rehash many of our previous thoughts about the loss, coaching mistakes cost JMU the game. I hope HC CC and staff learned something from game.

1st Mistake: Not being prepared for the fake field goal and giving up a 22 yard run for a TD.

2nd Mistake: Given up a 44 yard run for a TD on a 3rd and 23. This was an absolute all-around boneheaded play.

3rd Mistake: Not calling a running play on the 2 yard line with 8 seconds in the game and with 2 time-outs in your pocket.

Yup, my coaching call from my cold stadium seat was a Palmer run. If he didn't get in the 1st time. Line him up again in the backfield (after using a time out) and have Ben run a naked bootleg untouched into the end zone. But we still had to convert the 2 pt conversion, which was no sure thing.

And when he fumbles the game away all we hear is how on earth could we trust a 3rd string freshman in crunch time?!? I trust Cigs and his call there, the defender stepped up and made a stellar play. Add even if they scored on it good luck on a 2 point conversion to tie the game. And of course the play he called there would’ve been the 2-point conversion play nonetheless.

Possibly, but not because it was a statistical probability and not because it was a bad call given his performance in the 2nd half. In short, the comments to the negative would have been without merit IMHO.

Palmer had accrued:
6.7 yds per carry over the season
4.85 yds per carry in the semis & final
5.5 yds per carry against NDSU
Zero fumbles, (at least I can't recall one)
93% of carries produced positive yardage
67% of carries produced 3+ yds

Frankly, I'd have been happy w/ any of the 3 backs getting cracks at it, but would have preferred Palmer or Obese. Between Obese, Hamilton & Palmer, there was a combined negative 50 yards in 487 combined rushing attempts. That's pretty darn good. Again, I like my odds. Instead we threw to Polk, who had managed to free himself for one reception the whole game. Polk was the man for most of the season, but the Bison game was not his night against their scheme.

Hindsight is 20/20. Its easy to look back and say Palmer shouldn't have gotten the ball. But what about all the times where we bowled guys over and really kept the offense strong? People tend to forget about all the good things a guy does when he does a bad thing. Any of those guys could have fumbled.
What about our defense? They let NDSU off the hook many, many times that game. Personally, I didn't think Palmer was the same since he came off of his injury, but had moments where at least I understood why Cignetti had him in the game.
The truth was that NDSU was better than us. The players could have played better. The coaches could have coached better. It clearly wasn't our best game. NDSU deserved to win.
We need to stop it with the excuses. We are better than that as a fan base.

RE: National Championship JMU Versus NDSU January 11, 2020
I wasn’t crazy about the play on the last play call either but Polk was wide open if Nooch throws it on time instead of hesitating a second. The NDSU safety anticipated the play and came off of Ryan to make the interception.

If I criticize anything the coaches did, it would be having another receiver near the route. If I am going to criticize a player, it would be Nooch for holding the ball too long and then floating one out there.

The play was there. The Dukes ran it the series before and it was open then too. Nooch over threw the receiver that time which is probably why he lobbed it on the last play. Sort of like putting in golf. You hit the first one too far by so the next one is short.

We are all human and yes, hindsight is 20/20. I too felt NDSU was the better team that day. We would have stole a win if we scored, completed the two point conversion and won in OT.

On the final play, for whatever reason, the package, personnel, Monty's tendencies, etc., NDSU wasn't surprised with the playcall. Their whole sideline (including our buddy Easton Stick) was screaming pick play as Polk went in motion.

Such a frustrating game (especially the fake FG), but agree that NDSU made plays when it mattered.
