My pick to win the tourney this year would be either Charleston or Northeastern. I'll never trust Mihalich, no matter how much talent he puts on the floor. You can't just roll the ball out there every year like he does, and also overly rely on your starting 5, and win 3 in a row on a neutral floor. You just can't. Whenever they make the finals, their guys have looked visibly exhausted.
Hard to believe it until they actually do it, but this may be the year for the Pride. The Tribe also has a very short bench. I cannot see them winning either(although I hope I am wrong on that). The first title is always the toughest. Delaware is fairly deep on talent with a good bench, they should contend. But Towson, W&M, and Hofstra have the added pressure of having never won the tournament. As I will never get over(Carl Baptiste charged and Omar Prewitt missed the one in one), Delaware has 1 title. I watched my only Tribe game this season to see Marcus Thornton get his number retired, Delaware looked like the better team Saturday, but Nathan Knight carried the Tribe to victory. It is extremely unlikely he could do it 3 days in a row in March.

Cool to see Marcus Thorton get his jersey retired. I sat courtside at that memorable game in Trask in 2015. Daniel Dixon hit the dagger and Thorton was the best player on the court that night. Those were some fun W&M teams.

RE: CAA play men's basketball 2020
It was harder to win then because the talent overall was so much better. Those were amazing games then though. Nearly every game between the Seahawks and Tribe was high octane and very intense. The 2017 Semis in Charleston, the Tribe played at a very high level, it just wasn't enough. The Hawks were just at another level that season. Shaver did not get enough credit for where he took the Tribe to. We basically had no program and no chance before he arrived in Williamsburg. I still maintain if Hofstra had not played such an amazing game in the semis in 2015(a Tribe 1 point win in double OT), the Tribe stood a good chance to win the title the next night. As it was, they played exhausted for about the first 30 minutes of the contest and were no match for the Huskies. In other years(2014-2019)(with the notable exception of last March 10th in the meltdown against Delaware), the Tribe was good, consistent, and basically lost to the team that cut down the nets.
Hope the Hawks get a good coach(Burke or other good hire) and the Tribe is able to make things work well in a couple years with Fischer. Realistically, there is not a good shot this year for the Tribe. But, it will be much better than next year's chances. Our board is too myopic at times, and borderline delusional on our in game and in season prospects. I go to the JMU board to read basketball fairy tales. I get it from their fanbase though, they have resources and the ability to get talent and yet are not good. Our group might trade with them since they have the 6 team tourney 2013 title though. Their football is amazing though. Hopefully, the Tribe can rise to their level as some point.
Good luck this weekend, Hawks.

RE: CAA play men's basketball 2020
Delaware's 70-48 win over Northeastern made a statement, but Delaware still needs to be Hofstra and get help to get the 1. If Delaware beats Hofstra, Delaware will trail by 1 game and have a sweep. On Thursday, Delaware is at Charleston at 6:00 P.M. on CBS Sports Network. If Delaware beats Hofstra and loses at Charleston, Hofstra will find out during their 7:00 P.M. hosting Towson that they can clinch finishing above Delaware. However, W&M is at JMU tomorrow and has off on Thursday. If Hofstra loses Saturday and wins Thursday, they will be 13-4. If W&M wins Saturday, they will be 12-5 with the tiebreaker because of a split with Hofstra and a sweep of Delaware, who will have swept Hofstra. Putting other teams into a tie for third with Delaware would still give W&M the tiebreaker because Hofstra would need Towson to finish above Delaware, but if Hofstra loses to Delaware and beats Towson, that's impossible. Therefore wins by Delaware and W&M tomorrow will guarantee that the 1 seed gets clinched on kind of the final day. I say "kind of" because Towson will play at Northeastern on Sunday March 1 on CBS Sports Network, so Saturday February 29 is not the last day with games.

Hens are coming on right now and the Tribe has a shot too. Hard to figure C of C and especially the Huskies. Both should be in the mix this year but are underachieving.

LOL.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I don't take issue with that.
We'll see. Still a good bit of basketball to be played. Can they sustain this success for during the tournament? We'll see.

Regardless, I'd think they are pretty far ahead of where you anticipated. Honestly, the way they started i thought you were going to be right. They have some real nice pieces they seem to be clicking

Yeah, I agree. I have no issue with them doing well, so if I'm wrong it's all good.

I remember back in the day when we had some epic battles with them. Seems Slattery and Goldsberry would nearly come to blows every game. I remember a sign in the stands " WE BLEW HENS". Whole crowd chanting Slattery Sucks....... Good times

I’ll take against the spread:
Drexel-2.5 over Huskies
Hofstra-1 over Hens
Hawks over C of C -6
Fla St-1 over State.
I’m due for a bad day and the odds may catch up.

Heading into the final week, we are locked into the 8-9 game. We will play either Elon or Drexel for the right to play #1 Hofstra, barring a worst case collapse for the Tribe.

No. JMU can tie you at 4-14 and swept you. It would be a great escape from last if they won at Northeastern and Hofstra, but it's not clinched.
Edit: No seeds have been clinched.

The liklihood we fall out of the 8-9 game is very slim.

I actually think being in the 8-9 game isn't bad. The first round game is one that we can win against either Drexel or Elon and if we can get to the quarterfinals, then playing Hofstra isn't the worst thing in the world. We would likely get an over-confident #1 seed that has a fairly poor CAA tournament track record and has a mediocre coach.

There is no way that JMU wins at both Northeastern and Hofstra. So the 310 is clinched as is the #1 and #2. There is a very small chance Hofstra could lose at home to Towson, but if they did, there is NO WAY they would lose at home to the Dukes. So, the Tribe is the #2 thanks in part to UNCW's win on Saturday night. So, likely another year of not playing the Hawks in the CAA tourney. I think 2017 might have been the only time ever. Too bad for the Tribe that we caught the most talented UNCW team likely ever that day.
Hofstra is rightfully a significant favorite this year. Not a lock, but a larger favorite than any team since UNCW in 2017.
