RE: CAA play men's basketball 2020
I think you’re right ‘91, but if you can get top 6 anything is possible like winning a 7th CAA title. Not likely however is my hunch.

If NU fades, the wn the other night looms large.

But three games ahead in the win column. NU, Delaware and Drexel are occupying the 5-6-7 spots tied at 5-4, but we've only beaten NU. They are dropping like a rock while Drexel and Delaware are rising when we need at least 2 of those three to fall apart.

Yeah, there’s still time and half the schedule remaining. I think our guys playing like this is going to put some extra pressure on the guys in front of them.

Plus, I’d bet none of the top dogs are going to want to see a matchup with us now in the tournament. A couple weeks ago the entire confer was salivating looking at the dates on the calendar they played us.

True. But with a top 6 finish as a goal, we need some help unless we pretty much go undefeated. Hard to come out of the play in round and make some noise in the tournament.

Towson winning at W&M was unexpected. We could have used a Towson loss as that would have put them at 4 losses with Drexel, Delaware, and NE. I also would have preferred Delaware get that 5th loss today too putting us only 2 behind #7

Historically no, it’s highly difficult or nearly impossible to come out of the play-in round and make it to the Finals.

But if there’s any team that can do just that, it’s this one. You can throw the records out at this point.

The Delaware win hurt our chances, but they play Drexel next, so one of them is going to drop. Win at Towson and there's a great chance we close the gap to 2 games on the three teams in front of us since Northeastern plays William and Mary next. We would also have a decent chance of going on a 5 game winning streak since we play at JMU and then Elon at home in a must win, since we need to stay ahead AND get the tiebreaker on Elon. Then we face murderers row with William and Mary at home, NU and Hofstra on the road, and close with CofC, Delaware and Drexel at home. Those last two home games could determine whether we get that #6 spot or not.

It's exciting that we even see a path now. Wow, what a change.

Towson is on a 6 game winning streak which started at their win in Trask. A virtual must win if we want to have a realistic chance at top 6

JMU is bottoming out much like we were prior to firing C.B.

6 straight losses, including handing Elon just their 3rd win against DI (the others being Kennesaw State, and of course, us).

I wonder if we'll be the only CAA team to let a HC go midseason, or if the Dukes will be joining the club and firing Louis Rowe? He's in Year 4 of his tenure, after all. And JMU is headed into a new arena (Atlantic Union Bank Center) in November.

RE: CAA play men's basketball 2020
It is hard to see a way that you guys finish in the top 6 at this point. It will take 8 wins minimum(and possibly 9 now). 7-2 seems very unlikely in the second half for any of the 10 teams. But, the Hawks are trending up for sure with that win on Saturday. Thursday might be the beginning of an avalanche of momentum for you guys. Towson has won 6 in a row and apparently was fairly dominant in Williamsburg on Saturday. Beat them and get to 3-7 and the Hawks might run all the way to .500 in the next few weeks.

Towson looks like the best team right now. UNCW becomes that team that is playing the best if you win Thursday. Hofstra(close loss), Northeastern(win), at Charleston(win) at Towson(win) is as good of a 4 game stretch this season for any CAA club.

It seems safe to say that Elon and JMU are clearly going to be in the bottom 4. If the Hawks climb into the top 6, who are the other 2 schools at the bottom? Northeastern still looks solid to me and Delaware just swept the 2 northern games. Not an easy year to come back when 5-4 is the record for the 7th place team. Any of the 10 teams could finish in the bottom 4 right now.

Yeah, we'd really have to go on an amazing run. 7-2 in the 2nd half get us there. 6-3 might not.

For now, it's 7 teams fighting for 6 spots for the foreseeable future.

But even if we assume we'll finish 7th/8th, I can't imagine that the 1/2 seed would have any interest in seeing us in the Quarterfinals. We're going to be putting teams on upset alert for the remainder of the regular season and postseason.

It's hard to see, I agree, but not impossible. IMO, we are playing as good as any team in the conference. If the top teams half way through the season had a 7-2 record, there's no reason to think UNCW can't finish that strong. Don't forget, UNCW helped every one of those teams get there. We won't anymore.

Thursday is really important. UNCW needs the whole table to be run - Charleston beats JMU, Hofstra beats Elon, W&M beats Northeastern, and UNCW beats Towson.

If that happens, the eye of the needle that would need to be threaded to reach 6th place becomes plausibly larger.

Oh he's here to stay as the JMU admin is asleep at the wheel when it comes to MBB. It's locked away in a janitor closet with the key misplaced.

An emerging consensus on CAA wins this year is 3.

The plight of a mid-major with a successful football team, I suppose.

It's not like donations will be pulled; people are still contributing to the Duke Club for football purposes. So they have zero incentive to improve.

You cannot downplay the coaching change and its impact so far on the Hawks. The only question is was it too late? The Towson game is SO important because it would continue the run and make getting to .500 a possibility. A win tomorrow almost makes it a new season. You guys have to pass 2 teams to get to 6th though. Basically any of the top 7 could be those 2 teams, including the Tribe, Hofstra or Charleston. Even taking the Hawks out of the equation, someone could go 10-8 and be in the play in round.

As for being the team no one wants to see in the quarters, it is still more than a month away from the tournament. It is still too early to tell who will be playing the best then. It would certainly be true if the tourney was this weekend.
