Next year is looking pretty bleak. We have O'Connell coming in, who I think could be a good player, but who I also think has about a 0% chance of getting enough minutes to make an impact as a freshman on a JJ team, and nothing else so far. A lot of us, myself included thought we would be very good next year, that has been completely blown up since pretty much all of the assumptions that went into that belief have completely fallen apart.
Dickens would be vastly improved and be a force in the post (fail)
Ezikpe would be a dominant type big man (partial fail)
Godwin would be a guy who hit every open three and score double figures (fail)
Green would be a CUSA POY type of player (likely fail).
Reece would be a significant weapon (We will see. He has the talent)
We are left with basically the same team coming back next year, minus two players we expected to be pretty good, with the same gaping holes we have on this 6-11 team. The front court holes may be even bigger with the loss of Carver, who sadly is a significant piece with the current state of the team.
This team will be no better than last year's team unless Green takes a gigantic leap, Wade develops a jumper to the three point line, Ezikpe is good enough to be a focal point of the offense, and the big Greek recovers from his knee problems and becomes a guy who can be a legit starting caliber post player.
Yes there are some scholarships open, but the chances of us filling them with a player at the positions we need (Bigs) who can actually be a difference maker are next to zero. Let's face it, there are not a ton of good transfer bigs out there, and if they are good, they are getting scooped up by P5 teams.
