RE: Dudley: Where UAB stands ahead of early signing period
Thompson has some good players, but there were several teams they played that had a talent advantage, where the Thompson coaches had to actually out-coach the other ream. Freeman really brought the Pate kid along very well at QB.....almost no drop off at all from Tua's little brother.

Ok look at it this way when u saw or heard of the dumbest coaching blunder this season any team, this season that coach had the option of A playing some kid name Mac. B playing hurt guy little brother. C playing the greatest coach lol in the history of the game grandson. Depth
I mean technically speaking we did sign a QB.......Kelle Sanders......he just plays a lot of defense here recently.

Pate is an interesting player. Did he get any offers?

Think it’s a few former QBs on the roster I remember Logan Arnold as a high school QB

If we are forced to go to our 4th option at QB at any point during the season we more than likely will be just running out the clock to get the season over.

RE: Dudley: Where UAB stands ahead of early signing period
When UAB RETURNED in 2017 we had about 22 starting positions that were questionable. As we move into current recruiting during the 3 main signing periods (Dec "early" SP, JUCO SP, and then Feb 5th SP) we have less than half that number of questionable positions, and we seem to be doing well according to "expert" BT posters. We may also see transfers (in and out) and/or discouraged quitters who might change the calculus as we approach spring practice / training and the summer. At any rate, no school can have more than 85 football players on any kind of scholarship (not just the "football NLOI scholarships") when the fall semester begins.

Yeah I wonder who’s the 18 returning starters or are we counting co-starters.
I’m still expecting atleast 8 more signees, for this coming signing day. Just a wild guess, but with two commits I expect some surprises. Normally filled the back end recruiting season pretty well.

Only one I know of is the OL Zach Taylor from James Clemons. I believe I saw an interview that he said he would be here this semester.
Im sure some of the JuCo kids will try to get here this semester depending on their grades.

9 returning starters on defense if you count Cash who started five games. Plus we also get Brontae Harris and Jarrion Street back. We are crazy deep with talent and experience at cornerback and Star.
On offense we only lose 3 regular starters (Parham, Dufour and Galten) although Galten and Dufour both missed half rhe season.
So 17 returning starters on offense and defense by my count. We also lose our kicker which could be a big loss. Punter returns.
2020 hinges on whether the Offensive line improves significantly. If so we play in rhe confernce championship game again, and maybe on New Years day. If not, we wont see either.

Add to it a healthy stable of running backs and maybe 1 or 2 more that can add to the mix.

As well as the QB's ability to recognize defenses and not throw into the coverage.

If only they had a QB coach/OC that could coach them up on that.

Be careful. Some folks get offeneded at questioning our #105 rated offensive production/scheme!

Just a thought here but maybe Clark's idea for the program is a package deal.
You get Clark and you also get the coaches that Clark wants for the program.
The previous option was to get McGee and the coaches that he wanted for the program.

I feel like you two are the same person and you are talking between each other....or your talking to yourself....or having a conversation patting yourself on the back and saying the same things over and over again.....wait now im confused.

I meant I don’t see 18 true starters, most were co starters like Daniels and Marshall. Starling may be the only true returning starter at CB.
2020 for me is about play calling, and correct usage of personnel, and getting true depth at all positions (WR). Would like to see some speed added in the skill spots but that may be too much.
