The win probability for next year is bleak. Only against Hampton (96%) and UCONN (52%), is ODU favored.
Apparently beating UTSA is a tossup
That was in February. It's a whole new world now.
Not really. Rahne would have benefited from spring ball and fall camp, more than schools with returning coaches.

Some changes but nothing major. It will depend on Wolf/QB situation. It was so bad this year, impossible to predict many wins.

Nah I just refuse to set high expectations for the upcoming season. Rahne lost the valuable time to instill a new playbook this spring. Instead of having 75 guys that know his expectations and have been working at his level of expectations, when fall camp starts he has a whole team.
I think Rahne will be a winner (assuming the funding is there), but I am not going to have high expectations for this first season

Hope springs eternal...and I think removal of the piss-poor management on O could result in a similar bounce that we saw from the D last year. This staff seems smart enough to simplify and play to their strengths. Sure there are a few cogs that need to be fabricated to make the machine run efficiently, but there are generally already a few serviceable parts in place.
Now if we're being ultra-realistic I think it's unlikely the season even gets played, but that's a convo for the OT thread.

I started out last yearsaying I mostly wanted to see improvement as the year progressed. Wasn't there and that was a major dissapointment.
I'll start this season saying the same thing. I don't expect to win many, although more than 2 would be nice. I'll be looking for seasonal improvement and clear evidence the kids are being coached up and getting better.

RE: Rahnes Staff Discussion
FWIW, Bill predicted 4.5 wins. Thats completely fair.
"Ricky Rahne's got a lot of QBs to choose from, but RSFR Hayden Wolff avg'd 4.6 ANY/A last year, and it was easily the best on the team. Gross.
The OL's experienced, and there are a couple explosive soph WRs (Aaron Moore, Nigel Fitzgerald). But nothing matters till QB is solved."
The crux of the matter is poor QB play killed this team last year. The defense was solid, not spectacular.
This upcoming season will depend on QB play again. The old staff just swung and miss with Smart and deWeaver after LaRussa bolted (and they didn't give Williams a shot). The talent on defense should be good (it really messed well with the old DC). If the new coaching staff can do alright, the defense should be good; at least in the realm of a 50-75 ranked defense. Very experienced with most of the talent returning.
On offense, the OL is extremely experienced. The WR group could take a big leap with growth from Fitzgerald and Moore (and Kumah?). Moore didn't come on until we changed QBs, but went for 80, 194, and 32 the last 3 games of the season. We need some more at RB and was hoping we were gonna get a transfer (cough Mclease), but seems quiet. Right now, it's Lala backed up by Watson and then Geiger.
I think a fairly optimistic prediction for me is 5 wins. That assumes Lala stays healthy and we get solid QB play from Wolff.

Agree. My rose-colored glasses thinking was 5 as well.
Giles, where can I find NCAA ANY/A stats? Found them for NFL (4.6 is about #140 all-time; Aaaron Rodgers is #1 w/7.3). I found AY/A for NCAA but not ANY/A.

It's all Greek to me, but if it's a metric applied across the board then it has at least some use to me. Thank you.

Have to admit, my crew is questioning whether we should buy season tix this year. Getting tix for a game we want to see will be easy, and we can watch the weaker contests in a climate controlled home in front of a big screen tv. Your move ODU on pricing.

You want them to lower prices again? They already lowered pricing for quite a few sections of the stadium.

Yes, the economy is going to get worse - probably for an extended period of time - before it gets better. Layoffs and cutbacks are going to be the norm in the coming months. Times are going to get tough.

Which member of Rahne's staff is best suited for this dilemma? Jackson? Reihner?

Very good interview. http://www.mattalkonline.com/podcast/sho...by-wilder/
Salary cuts are going to happen in every industry, and layoffs, furloughs, and the like. My company has instituted a hiring freeze and now we’re looking at other “tougher” options. Anyone who thinks their job is safe and the economy is just going to turn back on is not living in our current reality. Hard times are ahead.
