That being said, I just want to hire the best candidate and the best fit whether that is RS or someone else.

Agree, and I'm not even worried about nixing a search firm. There should be plenty of good candidates. But, my heart really hopes RS is the bestest!

Silverfield may in fact be the perfect fit, but Leatch and Rudd certainly should vet other candidates. There is a TON of interest in this position.

For the 100th time, we did NOT use a search committee when we hired Norvell. The only two candidates last time were Norvell and Odom, and we wanted Norvell the whole time. We didn't interview anyone else and the whole process from search firm hiring, interviews, negotiations and offer took a grand total of 5 days.

As for who might pop up. With everyone on the planet thinking that Norvell was leaving, every single interested candidate has put out a feeler (or we have) through their agents. If we haven't identified someone yet, they aren't interested or aren't worthy.

I think they have a pretty good idea on who they are going to hire.

He wants a head coaching job. If he’s successful here and a big time program offers him you really think he’s staying?

Yes I do, but even if he doesn’t I think he is the best man for the job.

Yep. We need to take the necessary steps to find the right person for the job. And, yes, the players' opinion on RS and his ability to keep the program rolling at a high level (same offense, keep Brady White, keep recruits, etc.) should be considered.

We need to select the right coach to keep us at the top of the G5.

yes, he's staying forever and ever.....

Actually, hire the best man now for the job. I think Silverfield is the best right now for the bowl game and recruiting.

Worry about later when later gets here.

lol I wonder if this magnetic gravitational shift to Silverfield is partially because some people threw hugh in our faces.....

I don’t think so Snow.... There is a “probability” that Silver has just as MUCH to do with the 4 year successes as our former Head Skipper.....Our offensive line development/play; Our RB’s development/play (as we really have become RB/U); Our ability to block on the second/third levels and on special teams.....Just how MUCH of this Silver is directly responsible for? NOT SURE!!!! But these aspects are the foundation of a “successful” program.... And Memphis has been extremely successful..... Top 15 Top 10 program with a Cotton Bowl Win over PSU COGS

I voted Silverfield and hope he's the best guy at the end of the search. Someone could always show up and knock their socks off, though.

That's one of my reasons; plus what little I saw him coaching the OL, it was good.

RE: Who do you want to be our next coach?
I don't know, but no one really had any idea who Fuente or Norvell were when they were hired, they both worked out pretty good, and last time the fans drove the bus on hiring a football coach we got Larry Porter. I wouldn't hire someone on their stated commitment to staying here alone. Minds change. There's a hard ceiling here that they don't at even most "bad" P5 jobs. As long as we're in the AAC, a successful coach will last 6 years at the outside and probably more like 4. Anyone that's here longer than that will be someone who does just good enough not to get fired but not good enough to get interest from other schools.

Let the pros do their job.

Obviously, IF this truly is the best season in Tiger history..... Silver has worked hard and been a major part of this.... He deserves a shot.... give him his “just deserts” it’s the right thing to do.....We want loyalty..... in this particular instance, we must extend loyalty

Agreed. We're the best G5 team in the country. If we want to keep it that way, we need to have a good freakin coach. If RS is that guy, terrific. But, we need to make sure he's that guy.

There are good candidates outside. I like Napier, the App St coach (seems to be a Mizzou guy), etc. On this list give me Silverfield. Seems to be a solid candidate. Player coaches that were assistants concern me a bit. It's different being "the boss." That being said, I think he can do the job. It's just yet to be proven.
