And I like him

DeAngelo is a Memphian

Norvell did not quite make it

I think he got it, but even if understandable and perfectly professional and expected, he gave it up when he told the FSU kids it was easy to make the move and he is proud they chose FSU, as he did

I get the spin and I get all of it. The only real punishment is he loses the privilege of being a Memphian. For the rest, all is good. Glad he did well, glad that while he was here he gave back

Get the FSU AD to schedule a home and home with Memphis at the earliest opportunity and he can get some Memphis back

Norvell wasn't born in Memphis. His association with Memphis was as the football coach. But in that capacity, he embraced the city like few others who have been the Memphis football coach. To now criticize him for embracing the community around FSU is ridiculous. Norvell has given to Memphis every bit as much as he received, probably more. I thank him for his hard work to build our football program & rep Memphis in the process & I wish him nothing but the best in his new challenge at FSU where he can legitimately pursue a national championship. In my mind he will always be a favorite son of Memphis.

Ditto.

Agree. I can't/won't find negative in how Norvell has done the job or how Norvell left the job.

DeAngelo is right about the attendance issue. Folks need to stop being lazy and staying home to watch the games. I couldn't agree more.

If I were the UofM I would work to get local games blacked out in Memphis so they have no choice but to go. That'll fix the attendance problem. It may piss off the lazy couch potatoes, but it would benefit the program in the long run.

It's a nice thought, but in exchange for maybe 10,000 extra fans in attendance, you are cutting off access to a few hundred thousand fans that will watch $EC teams instead. Worse than that, you are going to cut off fans that have a difficult time getting to the stadium, elderly fans, fans with small children, fans that can't afford tickets.

Just keep building the brand and little by little we are tearing away tiny portions of other fanbases in the midsouth every year.

Along these lines, I hope and pray that the University will figure out some accommodations that will make it easier for the elderly and families with small children to access the Liberty Bowl. Yes, I know there is a handicapped parking lot next to the stadium. But for example, a have a friend who is a HUGE Tiger fan in both football and basketball, and she no longer comes to games because she cannot walk far enough to the stadium even from the handicapped lot. With all the motorized transportation today, it would be a great service for the U. to provide a ride in a cart up the ramp for her, and reserved seats close to a good point of entry. And also a special reserved area with easier access for people with small children, even a place to park strollers; hey, it works at Disneyworld! And a special family ticket for those who have children under the age of 10. I know my daughter and her husband balk at having to pay full ticket price for the two of them and their two 7-year-olds. Just some thoughts and suggestions for the U.

I also agree

And I didn’t find a lot of negative either and think he had to take the job at FSU. I am fine if he coaches these kids in Dallas and wish him well

But when he said, spin or not, that his hair stood up when he walked across their field, and that he was proud of kids for choosing FSU and that he chose them, it was just enough spin to keep him at the glad
he was our coach and pleased for all that he did and good luck level

DeAngelo said he would FOREGO his NFL career for one more year here, even though by the same Norvell standard he could have left

That is the subtle difference to make Mt. Rushmore

Overall very pleased with both Fuente and Norvell!

Just that he falls short of the highest honor

I had the luxury of being close to MN. He lives and breathes all things Memphis. He lived his life like a Memphian and knew what we dealt with a constant basis.

He left for a better job like a lot of Memphians have done and frankly more should leave this city and come back. There is a really big world out there and its' better to leave and come back - that is what helps grow the city.

Not to pick on you.
I've certainly heard the media repeat the "first championship in 50 years" line. Over. And over. And over.

But it's very misleading. First, we did win a conference championship in 2014. It might not have been "outright" because there was no CCG at the time. But we owned the tiebreaker, and we go the #1 bowl slot. And I have a t-shirt and a conference champion ring to make it official.

Secondly, we haven't been in a conference for 50 years. Many of those years were spent independent (about half IIRC).

So to make it sound like we've had 50 years of futility is misleading.

Sorry, but that has become an issue over the weekend. Now as for Norvell's Memphian status. I don't think anyone here is qualified to bestow Memphian status. He certainly lived like it while he was here. We'll see how he does over time there. If he never comes back except to recruit, then nah. But right now, I'm giving him a few benefits of doubt.
