I was wondering about that too. If so this probably is not a good year to resume the rivalry.

That said I am otherwise happy to be playing the Greenies. It would be awesome to play them every year along with ECU, UH, Memphis, Cincy, USF, UCF. Throw Marshall in that mix also.

I guess I can dream. Just my opinion.

USM loses by 20 pts and hopson gets extended another year.

I don’t like our chances, but maybe we actually get a effort because Hop knows losing to Tulane would send the fan noise from a low grumble to a full-on howl.

USM has won the last six meetings so we should have the bell.

Thanks I couldn't remember. I remember that being one of the funniest games when I was in school.. The ROTCs from each would run from Hattiesburg to NOLA week of the game in a relay of sorts.

I still need somebody to explain why that trophy is a bell and not...well, any other gotdamn object to which a person could actually attach some significance as it relates to the two schools or cities.

Just another time when we try to invent tradition.

State had an announcer that had been there for 40-50 years so we hire the 'voice of the eagles' and leave him on staff for 40 years.
Ole miss band was the 'pride of the south' so we are the 'pride of mississippi'
State clangs a bell so we try to get everyone to use some type of stupid whistle that supposedly sounds like an eagle.
State and ole miss play for an egg so we play tulane for a bell
State has a 'go state' cheer, ole miss says hotty toddy, auburn says war eagle so we say...... wait for it.....TTT

As the lone bowl game scheduled for Jan. 4, “it’s a great opportunity to show the nation what our program is about,” McClain said.

Hopson will wake up Jan 2nd after a night of partying and say oh crap we have to prepare for tulane. Then he'll call the staff together and try to come up with something.

More like crickets...This is feeling like Bower 2.0 except without all the conference championships, rankings and stuff. Hopson has just skipped over that part.

**I just saw where you also referenced this in another post as well**

What if it shows the nation we have sunk into total suckyness? What will be Jer’s answer to that?

it depends if those eating croissants and the handful of clowns still beer bonging on Sat. morning tune into the ether of another 'nobody cares' bowl....in other words, it won't matter....

when 62% of all D1 teams go bowling, other than school/conference affiliation (which is rubble with these two perennial powers), it's only those still left in their bowl pool and gamblers that will end up giving a shite about this matchup....

hell, I'd bet the NoFunLeague wild card pregame shows independently and easily outdraw in viewership vs. this game....

That’s exactly what I’m afraid will happen.

And for all our sake let's hope we don't pull a "coog it" bowl fiasco from 2018 where they got beat 70-14

For those wondering, it was confirmed on Twitter that the Bell will be in attendance and winner will take it home.

It will be a long time before we get it back. FCS schools rarely beat AAC schools.
