Why are you guys calling ULL's bowl game opponent Miami instead of their actual name, which is Miami of Ohio? Everyone knows that Miami is what The University of Miami is known as. Even fans of Miami of Ohio use their actual name.

Every poster on this board know we are playing a MAC team. The Miami team you are referring to is in a different conference.

You can imagine why a team that is sensitive about its name calling Miami the name they prefer.

Not sure, most casual fans have turned their back on the program after the FDT video and Hudspeth’s comments on the matter. So Napier and staff have a giant mountain to climb to convince casual fans to come back.
What's this referring to?
Under Hudspeth several players made a video just prior to or right after the presidential election yelling Frack Donald Trump. Some other players who didn’t agree leaked the video to YouTube. It went viral and was a hot button topic in a state where 59% of the voters supported Trump. Hudspeth made a comment in a press conference defending the players and calling fans who would support a President who said Deplorable things are a bunch of hypocrites.
He was a goner as soon as he made those statements and 20% of our fan base that he helped grow never stepped foot into a Cajun sporting event since.
They were singing a song. Geez, please stop. The ULM guy is correct, the people who were allegedly offended by kids singing a song are also alleged to enjoy liberal tears.

Miami in the north will be a bigger challenge than that one out of Florida. That one can't play ball anymore. They're too worried about heavy thunderstorms that can keep them from a beating in Jonesboro.

OMG is that ALL LaTech fans are capable of doing? Complaining about how a school is referenced? The school in Ohio was founded 116 years before the one in Florida and the one in Florida isn't even in Miami, it's in Coral Gables so they ought to just give up the name.

Everyone sees what you’re attempting to do, but the actual school name is Miami University. They were founded in 1809 and started football in 1888. The University of Miami was founded in 1925 and started football in 1926. Referring to Miami University as “Miami” is correct. All because “Miami of Ohio” is used in the media doesn’t make that their official name. And because the University of Miami was created 116 years after Miami University formed doesn’t mean Miami loses the ability to call themselves “Miami.” Besides, as someone else put it, everyone on this board knows that the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are playing the Miami RedHawks.

Come on man. You know they are only school that could play a school named Miami....dang. Of course they shut out a team with an OC that knew he was gone. Anyway they announced on the air he wasn't coming back. Louisiana is playing the better Miami team.

Lending Tree Mobile Bowl Louisiana vs Miami
I know this topic has been discussed on this board before, but it would be nice if this game would not be on the Monday evening when most families have to send their kids back to school from winter break. I believe there is only one other bowl game on the Saturday before this one and it starts at 10:30 am. First NFL wildcard game is at 3:35. Sandwich this bad boy between those two games. Maybe a 12:30/1:00 kickoff.
ETA: the Friday before (1/3) wouldn't be bad either. Have it in the evening to avoid conflicting with the Potato Bowl at 2:30.

The game has been played on these dates since it has had a Sun Belt tie-in:
Wednesday, January 6, 2010
Thursday, January 6, 2011
Sunday, January 8, 2012
Sunday, January 6, 2013
Sunday, January 5, 2014
Sunday, January 4, 2015
Wednesday, December 23, 2015
Friday, December 23, 2016
Saturday, December 23, 2017
Saturday, December 22, 2018
Monday, January 6, 2020
ESPN is going to do what ESPN wants to do, but I would rather this game be played on a Monday in January versus being crammed in right before Christmas.

My post never suggested that. The bowl slate is always light after New Year's and having it on the weekend following in a time slot that doesn't conflict with NFL wildcard games seems obvious. As a casual observer of college football, I would not be likely to watch a bowl game on a Monday night. But put the game on a Saturday, Sunday, or even a Friday evening, and maybe I tune into that game. You have my aforementioned slots, as well as the slot this game was at in the past (Sunday evening). I would argue all are better for a casual viewer than a Monday night game. And then you also don't screw the bowl and host city with weak attendance due to the game being on a Monday.

I’m not saying Monday is great, but the last 4 BCS National Championship games played, all 6 CFP Championship games played, and all 6 future CFP Championship games scheduled thereafter are all on Monday. Hopefully you guys do have a good turnout. There are usually some Jag fans that go out and support the conference as well.

Bingo, Miami was a college when Florida still belonged to Spain. Interestingly enough, while my Miami was named after the Miami tribe of the midwest, the city in Florida was named after a river named after the completely different Mayaimi tribe around there.
Having lived in Florida I'm used to the name thing by this point. I usually refer to the other college as Da U, while some Redhawk fans call it Coral Gables Institute of Technology. I don't have an issue saying "of Ohio" in general, but during sports games where it's obvious that we're the Miami on screen it gets really annoying hearing commentators pepper that in constantly. Will be interesting a few years from now when we play the Canes in non-conference play.

Don't count on playing them in non-conference. They'll find a thunderstorm to hide behind and claim it's a hurricane so they can't travel.

Heckendorf has been rumored for the Miami job. When that crashes I hope he never gets back to Jonesboro. It will be twice he left. First time in a couple months. This time after a year. We need to stop being a soft landing place for him.
