Dear RunningGame,
His baggage is more than blowing his top. He used ineligible players when he was coach at Grand Rapids Junior College, when they had a football team.

I hope Anese stays in Big Rapids for the time being. I like seeing Grand Valley St's hold slip, and some of that's due to the Bulldogs.

That would not be a problem with the CMU fan base. It supported players after they killed a dude outside a bar.

The definition of "baggage" is pretty loose in Mount Pleasant.

Didn’t Lester use ineligible players in D2? Who cares? That can’t be what’s holding him out of D1. I’d trade Lester for Annese today.

I went back and looked. It seems Annese used an ineligible player in one play in one game. It looks like someone forgot to type the name of a marginal player on a list: https://www.mlive.com/smallcolleges/gran...will.html. Surely that can't be what people are referring to here?

At Elmhurst, it was the financial aid department that screwed up over several sports: https://www.mlive.com/broncos/2017/11/nc...ons_a.html

So, playing ineligible players is a big deal and people should care about cheating, but neither is a case of a coach concocting a nefarious scheme to skirt the rules.

WMU already has too many D2/D3 coaches on the staff. Why would you turn over the entire program to a D2 coach with no D1 experience? Isn't that already the beef on this board with Lester? Totally different dynamic recruiting D2 vs D1.

IIRC, during the post-Cubit and post-Fleck job searches, the board seemed to toss around names of successful lower-division head coaches (mainly FCS plus Annesse) more than B1G/P5 coordinators or position coaches. Chris Chreighton making the moribund EMU program competitive was some impetus behind that.

I remember when Fleck left we were all kicking around the idea of the James Madison coach... Mike Houston... Had just one the FCS national championship... was rather fiery... He went 37-6 at JMU before taking over East Carolina this season and going 4-8... I think we could have snatched him up in 2016... water under the bridge.

Only open job is @ Baylor right now, looks like, so Mac will be back next season unless Minnesota situation happens.

Also, yes, many wanted Houston, including myself. There's less of a gap between FCS & the MAC and FSU & the MAC.
