Hops use of QBs this season
Below are the status on southernmiss.com for the QBs that played this year. I don't think Hop used the new redshirt (4 game) rule very well at all. There were games that either we had well in hand or was getting blown out where he could have gotten more snaps for backups. I was shocked that he didn't bring in Whatley for the 4th quarter against FAU. Why didn't Jaden Johnson ever get in for a snap in a game?
So, we redshirt Whatley this season. I wasn't super impressed with his play last season, albeit he was a freshman. We really need either Johnson or Rogers to excel and win the starting position next year.
Jack Abraham
12 Games
Completed 258 of 382 (67.5%)
3320 yards, 18 TDs, 15 INTs
Tate Whatley
2 Games
Completed 3 of 7 (42.9%)
65 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs
Chandler Rogers
2 Games
No passing attempts
9 rushing yards on 2 attempts

QB Marcelo Rodriguez has decided to transfer. Considering his lack of playing time it doesn't surprise me.

The job is to WIN and WIN now, not to maximize mileage. And until you figure out how to WIN, burn them shirts!

Sorry everyone, but Hopson is as dumb as he looks and sounds. Sometimes it really is that simple. And from my experience, that's the case more times than not. Him calling out Bennett in public should have cleared up any doubt about his "dumbassness".

On the Briles thing, Bennett double crossed him then hid while Hop took the heat. Bennett should have been fired, right then.

I dont know the details on that. But changing your mind isnt double crossing. Dont remember Hops email claiming anything of the like. I do remember reading an email from the AD to Hop, urging Hop to look elsewhere and not to interview Briles. Im not a fan of Bennett fwiw.

The devil is in the details. Telling Hopson, “Ok, you can bring him in to plead his case if you’re that adamant about it” but then vetoing the hire when said interview results in a sh*t storm wouldn’t even qualify as changing his mind. That’d just be giving something a try, then realizing it’s not tenable. If Hopson was told outright, “Yes, you can hire him,” only to then be told he couldn’t, then he has a legitimate gripe.
What I blame Bennett for in that whole situation is not backing up Mitchell in the first place in saying, “No, we don’t need to be talking to this guy when his last school is still being investigated.” Bennett caved in to Hopson and it blew up in his face.
