RE: UAB Bowl Projections - Week 14
You can remove the Bahamas Bowl possibility, they announced that Charlotte will be playing Buffalo.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/st...wl-victory

I am hoping for anything but New Mexico (a little far) or Bad Boy Mower (a little to close to Christmas). I want to drive and make some fun stops along the way there and back to whatever bowl we get.

Just glad we are getting a consecutive Bowl game on the mainland. And most of our possible Bowl games are far enough before or after Christmas that I think fans will be able to attend.

New Orleans, Nashville would be fun destinations that are nice and close.

I'm on board for a Saturday night in New Orleans against a Top 25 team.

The bowl payout still matters.

With us going to Boca last year & this weekend I believe you can toss that Bowl game aside even if it does pay the most.

A Nashville trip if it can be arranged against an AAC team would be good.

Thanks for compiling these each week, blazerjay.

Even though in reality most all of these have just been guesses, up until now..

The new addition of the Charlotte option is intriguing. I think I'd enjoy spending new year's in Charlotte, if we can't spend it in Nashville.

I vote for either Nashville or Charlotte is those are real options. No holiday conflicts, easy travel, quality opponents, and those are higher profile bowls with bigger payouts.

After Christmas would be better for me instead of before Christmas.

Last year I was Christmas-ing in Nashville when we played in Boca.

I don't see us going to New Orleans no matter how much we may want that. Looking at bowl payouts it is one of the lowest among the bowls that we are getting mentioned for. I have to believe we would take a better paying bowl before we go to New Orleans.

For reference N.O. is under a million while most of the others are all over a million some even close to 2 million. (I believe that total is split between the teams)

In response to that last sentence- nope. Many will be surprised to learn this, but the bowl payout money actually goes straight to the conference office, who divides it up evenly among all of the conference members. The teams that went to the bowls get a small bonus, plus travel expenses. Every conference works this way, and it is a part of the agreements to be a member. I think the participating team gets to keep a chunk of the ticket revenue as well, which encourages the school to go to a game where fans will follow.

This is one of the reasons Notre Dame and BYU are independent. They don't have to share money with anyone. And especially so for ND- they've got their own TV contract with NBC and they keep all the money.

Either way you slice it if the choice for UAB was Belk Bowl or N.O. the conference would send us to Belk.
Well if the conference was smart they would send us to the Belk Bowl....a lot to be said about our conference and smart sometimes 07-coffee3

Uh. It's been gone for several days. ( I only update the original post in the thread).

Speaking of...College Sports Madness finally updated their projections and now have UAB vs. Miami in the Independence Bowl.
