JJ installed his offense. Let's face it, there isn't a ton of time for practice before the earlier games, and we know JJ focuses on getting his defense installed first. Takes a couple weeks for him to get around to the offensive side. Once he did, we saw production that's more in line with what we would expect from JJ. We went from scoring 80 to struggling to get 50.

Maybe BW should have been the basketball coach and JJ the football coach

Bingo!

What, do you expect him to get up and scream in the head coaches face when a decision is made he disagrees with? You guys are priceless. He's doing exactly what an assistant is supposed to do.

I did in fact want Dave Twardzik to coach. That was in 1990 or whenever it was when they hired Oliver Purnell instead. His assistants would have been Sonny Allen and Jack Baker and they sure knew how to coach.

Dave Twardzik has only spent his entire life on the b-ball court and has played for hall of fame coaches, is in multiple hall of fames himself, and has played alongside some of the best players of all time. He’s also won championships at every level. Went on to become an NBA scout and work in NBA front offices. Scouting NCAA games all along. But yeah, what does he know?

Who in the world has said they want Dave Twardzik to coach, at least not in the past decade? The guy is 70 years old, but in his day he probably would have made a great coach, but didn’t get the job. And yes, he has been a coach. Was an assistant coach in the NBA , along with other positions that would have more than qualified him for a head coaching job in college.

UNC-W fires CJ McGrath. I'd like to see us play them again from time to time.

Wilmington could probably use a coach that has experience rebuilding 5 win teams....somebody like JJ?

Well, they took our women’s coach off our hands. Could they come to our rescue again? One could only hope....

This does not come as a huge surprise. The punching a player thing is way out of bounds, and comes as a bit of a shock, I guess, but GM has always had a reputation of not being a nice person. It was the reason it took him so long to get out of Winthrop and probably is the reason he has been at WSU for so long.

It was the reason he didn't get the ODU job when Blaine got hired.

As for being as WSU as long as he has, I think it's more that he's been waiting for a true blue blood job to open. He could have had a bunch of mid-pack P5 jobs, but the real blue bloods don't come around often. WSU pays him really well (Koch brothers) and he has all of the perks (private plane to recruit, charters, etc.) of every P5 job that isn't a true blue blood.

Presuming that the reporting is enough to move WSU to cut ties with Marshall, would he be too hot to pick up, even presuming that he'd have to sit this season out because of the timing? I'd imagine there's a few schools that would accept the risks and optics to improve their place, but how far does he drop?

And you joke, but let's say JJ retires at the end of this season and Marshall puts in for it. Should ODU take the chance? What conditions are there? For this exercise, let's presume that the Goodman report covers the bulk of what he did, and isn't the tip of the iceberg. He's obviously a very good coach, but if you're the parent of a prospect, how comfortable are you with your kid playing for him?

If half of the stuff in that report are true (and based on his public demeanor, I'd say it's likely to be fairly accurate), there is no way I'd want him to coach ODU. Frankly, I'd rather lose than have that kind of behavior associated with the program.

That is a shame. I agree, even though I feel like he'd take us to new heights, I cant stand the idea of having a coach like Marshall who is an abusive, horrible jerk. Crazy to think we could have hired him and Larranaga at various times though.

I agree. Winning is great but not at the cost of institutional and personal values. If one of the most prominent members of the university was a known abuser when you hired him, that sort of thing reverberates through the entire community. It's a massive breach of trust: We'll get your sons and daughters ready to take on the world but if one of their leaders happens to smack them around and use racial slurs against them, that's unfortunate but hey, he's getting us to the Big Dance! Hard pass.

But you know someone will roll the dice. I could see Liberty, if their current coach parlays his recent success into a P5 job.

As much as I disapproved the hiring of Jeff Jones and the continued employment of Jeff Jones, hiring Gregg Marshall would be worse. Different reasons but worse just the same.
