I think this is actually smart. They have a much better chance at being a good basketball program.

Not really financially speaking. Do not be one of the other schools that had to close their doors. Money uded for football can benefit the second favored sport (basketball) and others that cost less plus develop academia. I will also add facility renovations or establishments. This is my opinion by the way.

I feel bad for Jacksonville fans and members of the team. This likely wasn't an easy decision but hopefully it works out for the best. This doesn't exactly effect me as a Liberty fan but I never want to see something like this happen. It will be really hard to add it back in the future but I hope things turn around.

Brace yourselves, this may get long...

First, I feel bad for the athletes, but at least now they get a scholarship out of the deal if they chose...

I've never been a fan of non scholarship football or limited scholarship football at the D1 level. It dont make any sense to me that you willingly put yourself at a competitive disadvantage when there are already so many disadvantages to so many schools to begin with. I would love to see the Ivy League add (sports) scholarships and get into the playoff picture, but that's another topic.

But I get were they are coming from. And HOPEFULLY, they put the money they save, into other sports, upgrading facilities, paying coaches, and so on. I do hope it works out.

Sad to see, but also glad to see that they are working to best help the University as a whole while still looking out for those contributed so much to the football program.

If most schools made these wise but hard decisions more often, we'd see a lot less schools shut down, sadly.

Hats off to Jacksonville for seeing a problem & fixing it, even if it sucks to see them lose a program.

Ivy will NEVER add scholarships. You think the admissions scandal was bad before? That would take it to a whole different level.
