RE: 2019 ACC/Big Ten Challenge (MBB)
Agree with most of the above. Coming into the year I didn't quite understand ranking or predicting UVA or UNC ahead of UofL based on who they all returned and the incoming guys, and that seems to be playing out so far. It is a long year though. Injuries aren't an excuse and I think UNC and UVA both lose last night either way, but you can't discount that the key injury for each team played into the margins of the losses. I assume Key and Bacot will both be back for most of conference play.

FSU seems like a solid 5th, and maybe they finish higher than that. Nothing has occurred since the start of the year to make me rethink my belief that it was going to be a significant down year for the league both from the strength of the top 4 to just how bad the bottom 3-4 may be. The middle looks weak as well if NC St, Notre Dame, Miami, GT, and VT are the best bets to contend for 6th-9th. Only the Hokies appear likely to grossly overperform expectations. It's crazy earlier, but ESPN's bracketology in the last week only had 5 NCAA bids for the ACC. I think we'll end up with more than 5 but maybe not a lot more.

If Pastner finishes in the top half the league shame on all of you. But I admire your dedication to trying to assist in keeping Pastner there longer for the free wins.

I would be interested to see those numbers. You already looked them up so please share.

No, truly I have not looked them up. Too busy at the moment - maybe over the holidays...

Didn't they win one in Bass Fishing?

NC State is often accused of Bass Fishing.

NC State only four national titles 2 in women's cross country in 79 and 80 and two in basketball in 74 and 83.

NC State only has 15 conference basketball titles - 29, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 54, 55, 56, 59, 65, 70, 83 and 87

State only has 10 football conference titles 07, 10, 13, 27, 57, 63, 64, 68, 73, and 79

Baseball conference titles are just in 68, 73, 74, 75 and 1992.

State's main contribution to the conference was the construction of Reynolds Coliseum where the Dixie Classic and ACC Tournament were held for many years. It opened in 1946. We did not have a legitimate football stadium until 1966. In the late 80's and early 90's all of NC State's athletic programs were downgraded by the Administration at the behest of UNC Board of Governors - a board controlled by UNC-Ch alums. Combined with the addition of Florida State in football in the 90's, NC State has never fully recovered.

As a piece of the conference puzzle, NC State is worth more to the SEC or B10 than they are to the ACC, except the ACC does not want the B10 or SEC in Triangle or Triad markets of NC. More problematic is that NC State has a southern cultural fan base but is a school modeled and administered like a Big 10 school - namely Purdue. The final cherry on the top is that UNC-Ch has a veto over any move we would make.

It's like being in the first or second level of Hell, it beats being frozen in the ice, but it's not Heaven. let alone Limbo.

It's always Carolina's fault.

That beats Louisville by 32 years. Cardinal Stadium opened in 1998.

Prior to that, we played football games in an aging minor league baseball stadium at the Fairgrounds, and a high school stadium a couple miles from campus. Incidentally, that high school stadium is where Johnny Unitas played for the Cards, and where Lee Corso and Burt Reynolds played when FSU visited one season.

Not that this has anything to do with the thread .. but thought it'd be interesting for some.
