Exclamation Ryan Silverfield
What is the chance that IF Coach Norvell leaves Ryan Silverfield (Deputy Head Coach / Run Game Coordinator / Offensive Line) will step into the Head Coach position? He has been with Norvell since day-one, the first two-years as O-line Coach, then Asst HC was added to his title, now Deputy HC. He knows Norvell's offense and would give continuity to the returning Tigers and recruits for 2020.

His name keeps coming up but I hope we do the full search with the same firm that helped with Fuente and Norvell. He may still be the leading candidate, but let's do the search anyway.

RE: Ryan Silverfield
Love Coach Silverfield. Great guy, great coach, great recruiter. My only question - has he been a full fledged coordinator? I don’t know what an assistant head coach or deputy head coach do in terms of responsibilities.

If he has enough experience that translates, my choice would be Silverfield or Chip Long. That said, I trust our president, AD, and others to make another great hire. Hope Mike stays!

Search firm didn't pick Norvell. It didn't pick Fuente either, he was just on the list.

Yes, I am hoping MN stays for yet another season. We have gone through this process the past two-years during December with the best outcome imaginable, MN staying! My hope is that IF he does go he announces after Saturday's game so that we can get a coaching staff in place an salvage the 2020 recruits with early signing starting Dec 19.

It just rarely seems to work out well when team hires from within...

The current head coaches at Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma and Utah seem to be working out okay. All were internal hires I believe.

I think it’s a done deal if Norvell leaves. Great young coach and recruiter. Maybe Chip Long or Dillingham, but I think Silverfield has stayed because he was the guy.

The search firm recommended Jim McElwain when we hired Fuente and there was no search firm for Norvell. I guess by your definition, this is me getting crushed in yet another argument.

Two coached under Urban Meyer, one under Bob Stoops and the other had been a head coach at multiple P5 jobs previously... I would call those the exceptions...

Somehow I forgot to include two internal hires who won recent championships - Dabo Swinney and Jimbo Fisher. Chip Kelly got to the championship game after being hired off the Oregon staff.

Search firms don't pick people, they just expose those who are looking for new positions (under the radar) and can make recommendations. The final decision is always with the employer who conducts the job interview.

Yep, you would think that would be apparent, but I guess it needs to be pointed out.

Bobbie Bowden
Chip Kelly replaced the coach who was promoted to Oregon AD and hand picked Chip
Are you seeing the trend here with successful coordinators and who they follow? Also, with the exception of Coach O and Swinney all of the predecessor coaches retired (ala they had hand picked their successors), they did not leave for another job. I am not pooping on Norvell but I am not ready to put him in the class of Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops and Bobbie Bowden to where I want him hand picking his successor after he leaves for another job. Now if is here in 15 or 20 years and wants to retire and hand pick his successor then I would probably be okay with that...

I am just not a fan of hiring internally. I think it has to be a unique and long known transition of power to be successful. But the good news is we still have coach and do not have to worry about it at this point... 04-cheers

Yes, he also has one bullet but he has to keep the bullet in his pocket.
