2019 Season
BBVA Compass Bowl, Birmingham, Ala. – vs. SEC (will be a 6-6 or 7-5 team, like UT)
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg, Fla. – vs. Conference USA
Miami Beach Bowl, Miami, Fla. – vs. Sun Belt
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, Annapolis, Md. – vs. ACC (I think this is the 4th or 5th ACC team selected - not real sure)
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu, Hawaii – vs. Mountain West
Boca Raton Bowl, Boca Raton, Fla. – vs. MAC
R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, New Orleans, La. – vs. Conference USA
That's it folks. It's either nick the NY6 slot or play in a third / fourth tier bowl. Even if we do have two 11-2 teams if Cincy wins the rematch....
Did the Liberty Bowl pick us a few years ago because the SEC could not provide an 8th or 9th bowl team?
playing an ACC team at Navy's stadium on ESPN sounds pretty cool.
So the AAC's 11-2 conference champion playing a 7-5 AAC school is good?
losers don't get to b***h.
How is an 11-2 AAC league champion a loser?
if we're 11-2 we LOST the AAC Title.
Win and we get the Cotton Bowl, lose, and we're at ESPN's mercy as to whether we go to B'ham to face an SEC team, Annapolis to play an AAC team, or Hawai'i to play BYU.

Gotta hope so but tie-ins are tie-ins. If a P5 can provide a 6-6 team to fill a bowl slot they can't throw them out even for an 11-2 Memphis or Cincinnati team I don't think.....
Most bowls have an option to select an alternative once or twice in the contract period.

That's good to know. Leaves some flexibility to create a better match up and reward a deserving G5.....

It's possible for us to be 12-1 and be in the same boat though if the committee loses it's mind and somehow moves Boise ahead of us.
Can't really see that happening but it could.
The point is - The league has just GOT to figure out a way to get the AAC Champion a really good guaranteed bowl slot.

The LB has such wording, but it is more commonly determined by conference policy...some are more rigid than others. The AAC did a good job in that secondary/conditional ties can supersede primaries compared to say SBC or CUSA.

I was kinda hoping we could get something like AAC Champ (if not in NY6 Bowl) vs Army/BYU/Pac 12 (rotating) in the Independence Bowl.
I hate to say it but that's probably 'as good as it gets' going forward.

P5 don't want G5 bowl opponents.
Las Vegas Bowl was a glorious Pac-12 v. MWC game for decades. Now that they're moving into a new NFL stadium next year, it will be a Pac-12 v. SEC affair.
It's the Way of the World.
And there ain't a whole lot any of us can do about it.
You’re right, I was disappointed as I expected more after the bump in tv payout separated the AAC from the rest of the G5. Like I mentioned before, supposedly, the AAC is guaranteed the same number of P5 opponents (more when available) with locale variety.

RE: AAC 2019 Bowl Lineup
The bowl system is a bunch of good ole boys. They have long relationships with the power structure. Bowl Directors make 6-figures for a part-time job. P5 schools don't want to play G5's. And P5's tend to travel. Bowl Directors don't want to upset the apple cart, so they take the name schools. Their attendance is declining. And G5 ratings are improving. Most recognize that G5 winners are more-deserving. But it's more of the hypocritical corruptness of "non-profit" college athletics.
Meanwhile, the most corrupt NCAA sits around on their hands. Willing to concede the post-season of their biggest sport to a bunch of independent bowl directors.

Playing in the Liberty Bowl again sounds even better, JMO. BUT, we'll be playing in the Cotton Bowl.
