Poll bias against the G6
Thought it was interesting to see the individual voters, and how some of them are so obviously biased. A few of them have Cincy, Navy, and SMU, all ranked (giving us 3 top 25 wins) and yet still have us at like 18th.

Devil advocate says those were all home wins and the final scores were all fairly competitive...indicating that we are only slightly better than any of them.

Regardless of who is ranked higher- being 11-1 with three top 25 wins and they are barely putting us in the top 20? C'mon now. Did you actually look at the individual voters stats? It's ridiculous.

one or two had us at 20. But someone had at 10 as well. I 'm sure both extremes are taken out for calculation. At the end law-of averages should prevail.

RE: Poll bias against the G6
This is an interesting topic for discussion.

Of the teams ranked ahead of us, which would you move down in order to move Memphis up and why?

1. LSU (12-0)
2. Ohio State (12-0)
3. Clemson (12-0)
4. Georgia (11-1)
5. Utah (11-1)
6. Oklahoma (11-1)
7. Florida (10-2)
8. Baylor (11-1)
9. Alabama (10-2)
10. Wisconsin (10-2)
11. Auburn (9-3)
12. Penn State (10-2)
13. Oregon (10-2)
14. Notre Dame (10-2)
15. Minnesota (10-2)
16. Memphis (11-1)

I could see moving Penn State below Memphis. Their best wins are against then #17 Iowa and then #16 Michigan, two teams that are just behind us in the current ranking.

Minnesota has lost 2 of their last 3...both of whom were ranked. But, that loss to Wisconsin at home was a flat out turd. I could definitely put Memphis ahead of them.

Oregon's loss to Auburn is respectable...their loss to Arizona State is not. So, I might consider putting Memphis ahead of the Ducks.

Not sure I can place us ahead of anyone else.

Thoughts?

Oregon doesn't have a top 25 win. It's a shame about the criminal act that ended the game at Temple. If it wasn't for that, we would be sitting in between Baylor and Alabama in 10th.

You can argue that if we played Alabama's schedule, that we would lose to LSU, but would have a legitimate shot at beating Auburn at home, and we would have been favoured in all of their other games as well. Alabama hasn't beaten a ranked team all year.

I would love to get them in the Cotton Bowl. They will have a bunch of draftees not playing, have the mistake prone backup quarterback and will be the least motivated they have ever been since Saban took over.

We have nothing to lose.

We should be in the #5 spot instead of Utah. Prove me wrong by telling me how they have accomplished more that us. IOW, compare our records.

This is all null & void until our conference begins to pull off some huge upsets against top ranked teams. It just is what it is. We need to show up in the bowl season

Devil advocate says those were all home wins and the final scores were all fairly competitive...indicating that we are only slightly better than any of them.

We won two of those by double digits, and the third was as well until a late score and 2-point conversion got them within 6.
We covered the spread on all of those - except maybe the late line on Cincy.
We covered the 2.5 to 4-point home advantage on all those games.
We would be favored in all those games on their own home fields.

There is no statistical analysis that says we are only slightly better than any of them.

You mean like UCF did against Auburn in the Peach Bowl as 10 point underdogs? Then in the very next preseason AP poll, they dropped 15 spots to #21 to start the year. The only team in the top 10 from the final poll of the preceding year, to drop more than 7 spots. They dropped 15.

You're right that it's null & void. But it has nothing to do with upsets or bowl games. It's a rigged system.

Utah's best win is probably ASU & they lost to a 4 loss USC. They do not deserve to be in the top 10 much less in the CFP conversation but that would not affect where we are ranked. I believe Clemson is very good but they've played nobody. Bama but has lost to the only decent teams they have played, but again no affect on us. So probably Minn is the only school we might pass.

Well, it would affect it by at least ONE...

I could see us anywhere from 9-16.

I will alter this slightly and say not where we should be ranked, but who do you think we can beat on a neutral field. I honestly think every team from 4-15 can lose to Memphis this season. They've all shown the ability to get beat by lesser teams.

RE: Poll bias against the G6
I'd say that we are ranked pretty fairly.
The Massey Composite Ratings (a composite of nearly 100 ratings and rankings) has us right at #16. Sagarin, the computer ranking that I would trust as much as any, has us at #18.
https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm
You can always pick out a couple of "what-about" data points to say this team or that team is over-/under-rated, but the computer rankings (for the most part) take the collective work into consideration and spit out an objective rating (although there are certainly a few like ESPN's FPI, that have some built in bias).

I think probably the best way for any AAC team to make a statement is to really upgrade the OOC schedule. Right or wrong that is the only way to get national media and poll voters attention. Unfortunately you have no way of knowing who will be a ranked team. Unless you get a made for TV game.

I'm an advocate of upgraded OOC schedule too but more for revenue reasons. The rub is it can bring added risk of a loss to achieving the NY6 bowl when the competition schedules light. The way the CFP had played out, we know we'll never get a fair shake no matter how we schedule.

RE: Poll bias against the G6
It really bugs me that Iowa with 3 losses is ahead of us in the CFP rankings.
What does a loss count?
Who did they beat? Minnesota?
Minnesota is the Kansas St of years ago, nose dive down the stretch.
The Big 10 West is a joke.
AAC West is stronger Top to bottom.
Circle jerk logic.
I really want to pound some team in the Bowl and put all these polls to shame.
Our current ranking is an outrage!
Utah blind sheet is way worse than ours...
The PAC12 < AAC.
