I suspect this will be about as successful as Randy Edsalls return to UConn has been.

Well Schiano has more to work with than Edsall. At least Rutgers is in B10 with money rather than Indi and little to spend or play for.

You got to spend to keep up. Don’t know if this works out, but, this is going to be typical to keep up even a shred of credibility in the east.

Be careful of what you wish for. Just take a look at what's happening at UConn (Edsall) and Maryland (Locksley).

If Schiano wins the battle of the "BOTTOM OF THE B-10", wins 3 OOC games a year, and goes bowling every year once he is re-established with NJ and Florida recruits he'll get to retirement on this contract and any extensions he wants. Haven't heard what he got in the negotiations though, as he was asking for the moon before the original negotiations broke down, or at least cooled down for a while. 07-coffee3

What a soap opera this has been. Let’s see if “in principle” materializes like the “no” materialized. If it does, I’m interested in the terms to see which demands Rutgers met and/or which concessions were made.

The AD has to name his next grandchild "Gregory".

One of the Brunswicks (North, South, East) will be renamed Schianoville.

Most importantly, if the AD survives, and Schiano II is a flop, the AD can point out that this wasn't his hire, it was forced on him.

But I think it's a good hire. Schiano can mend a lot of fences with NJ High School coaches and rebuild those relationships faster than probably anyone else. We also won't have the discipline problems we saw under Flood and Ash. If he can get us back to consistently bowl eligible, Rutgers fans and perhaps the NJ Media might canonize him.

Schiano could recruit decently at Rutgers prior. As a coordinator at Ohio State, that's very good B10 experience. Maybe he has the Mack Brown touch, considerably improving the situation upon returning to a former campus.

I think this comeback defines his career. And it's nothing against his first stint, but, he was doing things at Rutgers during a time when Paterno was on cruise control at Penn State, the Big Ten in general not pushing so far into the east, and the ACC and Big East in these parts doing...who knows.

Guy's now firmly rooted in the NJ-PA-OH HS football territory. Honestly, he shouldn't have to work that hard getting kids to come to Rutgers given what they might face out in Columbus or Happy Valley, and the factories those places became.

Just hope Rhule doesn't return up north, especially to a Big Ten school.
