RE: $5M a year for Norvell
I honestly believe, that given the current landscape, he can do everything at Memphis he can at these other schools. OM and Arkansas are not going to the playoffs. The best you could ever hope for would be a NY6 bowl. And frankly, there might legit be an easier path for that here.

I'm a fan, but I'm not a blind homer. Convince me I'm wrong, but I really believe that. If it's truly just the money, I think we have the boosters that would be wiling to step up.

Hands down, but I'm sure Norvell also saw what Freeze was able to do at Ole Miss.

Wherever Norvell goes he's going to win. Now whether it's enough to please the expectations of said school is whole other thing in itself.

Yep (cheat to win & get caught) and one more major infraction might get OM the death penalty.

How successful was Freeze really? He was 39-25 over 5 seasons and went 5-7 and struggled his last season.

Is 8-5 every year really going to keep Norvell around long term at Ole Miss?

The sell for Memphis needs to be a $4 million package with a long term contract and illustrating the lack of success within the Ole Miss program. Nothing against the job it's who you are going up against in the conference. Facilities, revenue, boosters all huge pluses with the program, but it is too hard to compete. Long term he would make more money at Memphis. Do we really expect him to win long term against Coach O, Saban, Jimbo, Kirby, Malzahn, Mullen and the resources those programs have?
How successful was Freeze? Successful enough that he was going to take the Florida job before they hired McElwain. Successful enough that he took Ole Miss to back to back NY6 bowls. Successful enough to where he beat Alabama twice. Successful enough to where he had Ole Miss within one play of winning the SEC west. Freeze was successful at Ole Miss, his issue was his ego and then the off the field issues.

Teams like Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miss State if they can consistently win 8 games and then every once in a while pop for 10 or 11 wins they will be content with that.

To say they will never go is a reach. OM and Arkansas have a chance to go to the playoffs. I mean Hugh Freeze had Ole Miss squarely in the mix in 2014 until their best player got hurt and the season kind of tumbled after that.

Now it's definitely tougher there is no doubt about that, but the opportunity is definitely there for those schools.

This right here. Norvell has taken this program to heights it hasn't seen and they aren't done yet for this year.

If he leaves for Ole Miss thank him, congratulate him, and wish him well. He has left this program in a position to where it should be able to continue to win as long as they continue to put the effort into it.

Will you still feel that way if Gainwell and others were to transfer with him to OM?

If that's what they wanted to do yes I would still fill that way. Players transfer during coaching changes it happens and will always happen.

Same; god bless Gainwell and thankyou. Now don't touch the popcorn machine....

Well yea, if you ignore the blatant cheating that resulted them in them being on probation lol. If they are willing to sell out and be willing to do that then they can be in the mix, every decade or so.

Come on now. Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc...all blatantly cheat only difference is they are smart in how they do it. Freeze was super sloppy at it that's why they got busted oh and the fact that the NCAA did something unprecedented (shocker I know) in giving immunity to a rival school's players in order to get them to talk.

No not hardly. Though it's funny that's the only come back you can come up with when someone actually brings some common sense to the conversation. Also you're a fool if you don't think those other schools don't blatantly cheat. I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for you.

Wouldn't accept a US News article to tell me where quality of life exists. It's in the eyes of the beholder, not some statistical based article written by someone in the northeast. I lived in Memphis my first 26 yrs of life & spent the next 25 yrs attempting to get back to Memphis after living in the Seattle metro area and Atlanta metro - and spending a lot of time around LA & NYC. Until my children put roots down in the Atlanta area - I was all about Memphis as where I wanted to live - its in the eyes of the beholder.

Very true, which is why bringing up "Quality of Life" by Virginia Tiger does us no good. There is no way we can know what Coach Norvell considers quality. I suppose that is why people live in all corners of the nation. People tend to move where they want to be, eventually.

No it's not. The reason they got caught is that they did more of it, were dirtier at it, and paid more for players. In 2016 their recruiting class was #5 in the country. Better than Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, etc. How is that even remotely possible?

Look at basketball. Out of all the great players that the state of Mississippi produces, we have had exactly 4 Mississippi recruits in the last 20 years. Earl Barron, Avery Woodson, Mike Parks and DJ Jeffries. That's it. We have been in the lead with a lot of Mississippi kids up to the last minute, up to the day before when Ole Piss writes the check.

That is with good to great teams, great facilities, a huge fanbase and Cal, Pastner and Penny recruiting against the likes of Rod Barnes and Andy Kennedy. Ole Piss has a grand total of 4 NCAA wins in its history.

Why do you think the entire team is so heartbroken over 4-8 Matt Luke getting fired? He was probably the bag man, probably personally delivered the cash to their entire roster.

I'm betting FSU. These are their candidates. "Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, Penn State’s James Franklin, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly and Memphis’ Mike Norvell". Two of them will not leave their current jobs and Matt Campbell is not a wow hire. Mike Norvell will excite their fanbase.

Now it's definitely tougher there is no doubt about that, but the opportunity is definitely there for those schools.

No they weren't doing it more than all the other schools. If you think Ole Miss pays more than Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, etc.. for players I also have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.

Stop acting so clueless. 5 star players get bought. College athletics is a dirty business.

If everyone paid players the same way, none of them would go to Ole Piss. ZERO. You honestly think that if someone was getting paid and could pick any restaurant in the country, out of 120 restaurants, McDonald's would finish in 5th place?

That is adorable; God bless you.

Exactly,

Heck a few dollars are exchanged for high school players as well. This aint nothing new.

THANK GOD you disagree with me. I would have completely flipped my argument the other way if you didn't.

Ole Miss can't even get to the SEC Championship Game -- they're 1 of only 2 who've never made it.

But there's your challenge -- get Ole Miss to Atlanta.
