Per Temple he was never even mentioned in any internal or external discussions.
Likely THAT rumor was floated by his agent for the purpose of contract negotiation leverage.

RE: Bobby Appreciation Thread
As a Monarch that was there in Forman Field to watch every home game from the beginning of the program through the 2012 season and now watch or stream the games from my home in Sarasota FL, I want to extend my appreciation to BW for building a program that was based on integrity and for instilling a culture where no one was to valuable to be let go if they failed to live up to these values. Thank you for all the blood sweat and tears you put into birthing what was just a concept when you where hired and turning this experiment into a program that for most of your time at ODU we where all proud of. Your tenure may be over but the foundation you left will hopefully out live all of us. Keep "aiming high" and best of luck on your next coaching adventure!

Recently seen BW out in public. The guy is still a walking talking billboard for the ODU football program. I was one of the first on the fire BW train. After seeing him in ODU gear it had me thinking at what point does ODU/ the football program honor and recognize the foundation he laid for our program? My negative feelings towards him have faded and now at a point I would financially support naming something or a statue in his honor. The guy was a hel of a salesman for us in the beginning.

I felt that way too until we found out he was going to dump us for FAU. His loyalty seemed kind of fake to me after that. I’d rather put up another Lion fountain or a Heinike statue. But Bobby will likely get some sort of recognition sometime. He deserves it. But it might still be a little soon in only Rhane’s second year though.

I see Bobby all the time and yes, he is still a huge fan/supporter of the ODU Football program. He was the right hire at the right time.

I felt the same way. When I heard about FAU, and how they ditched him for Lane Kiffin, I got a real sour taste for BW.

While I appreciate what he did for ODU, I can’t look past what many of you have mentioned. He’s a salesman. I don’t trust salesmen.

We need somebody like Bobby Wilder in the basketball program right now because it is a tough sell.

I don't believe it would be a tough sell at all. The only knock I would see is that you are getting in a non basketball conference but you sell it based on perceived upside/schools interested in improving basketball.

Good facilities, decent location, great fanbase.

I guess the toughest sell is the lack of pay that we have offered in the past.

Thats the thing. We've paid better in the past, and certainly JJ doesnt deserve more money. If the right guy comes along, pay for him. We've lost almost 10 years of brand value and momentum wallowing in JJ land. As a result, the job isnt as flashy as it was when BT left. But the right person can build it back. We have a great arena, a nice practice facility, a great fan base for our level... it should be a good job. But it used to be head and shoulders above a gig like Radford, UNCG, Liberty, Furman etc. Now, especially in the SunBelt, Im not so sure thats still the case. I guess we will know when we see who we offer... assuming Jeff is gone. Which apparently isnt a sure thing.

What type of proof do you have that we lost brand value?

When is the last time a in-state or even regional P5 basketball team has played at the TED?

Blaine had these games many years.

Jones, not so much. Like not freaking ever.

Game. Set. Match.

I think that's more due to the changing dynamics of P5 schools than anything. When do P5 teams play away games anywhere nowadays??
