Bobby Appreciation Thread
Bobby was the right man for the job when we go this thing going. I'll always be thankful for what he's done for our University. This is a sad end, but it had to be done.

I wish him nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you, Coach, and good luck in the future!

I completely agree. I wish it was different, but Im hopeful for the future now. And with the returning players (hoping we don't lose our stars to transfer) and new coach has something to work with.

He built this program that a lot of us love and care about deeply about. I'm thankful for all the hard work and dedication he brought to ODU and ODU football. And will do my best to remember him for that.

I'm also sad it came to this but there was no other choice.

Thank you, Bobby.

RE: Bobby Appreciation Thread
This is certainly a sad day. Wilder took our program from nothing to FBS in no time and at a success rate that is matched by very few, if any. He built this program from scratch. What I love about Bobby is he didnt go the safe route (which fans wouldnt criticize), but took the route that gave the team the best chance at winning (going for it on 4th, passing on FGs for tds, etc).

Im not sure I can read much of the rest of our board today. Some in our fanbase are an embarrassment to the University. I have no problem with intelligent criticize of Wilder (like 78 does for the most part).

Bobby is a legend and his tenure should be remembered as a resounding positive. He exceeded every expectation and fast tracked the program to a place it takes decades to get to. Unfortunately it soured and the end was horrible but I will choose to remember his tenure as positive. If the measure of success in college football coaching is leaving the program in a better place than where you got it at, then Bobby Wilder passes with flying colors. Farewell, sir.

RE: Bobby Appreciation Thread
- ODU Football running out on the field in Sept 2009 for the first time to "Crazy Train". Electric!
-The 64-61 win over UNH. 730 passing yards for Heinicke.
-The wins over JMU.
-The games vs Georgia Southern. Maybe not so much not being able to defend the triple option, but super exciting games.
-Going to and winning our first bowl game in 2016.
-49-35 over #13 Virginia Tech, storming the field and you celebrating with both players and fans.
-The many, many tailgates with family and friends, more than I can remember, even more that I don't :).

That's what I'll choose to remember about your tenure. Thank you Bobby for all of that and everything you've done for the program. Good luck to you in your future endeavors!

Agreed. My oldest had his first 7 years of his life going to ODU tailgates and sharing in some fond family memories. He is responsible for getting this started and where we are now. Nothing but respect for what he did and wish him well.

Thank you Bobby. You built this program from nothing. Like others, sorry we got to this point, but you will always be remembered for our early success and will always be a Monarch.

Bobby, thank you so much for all you have given Old Dominion University. Similar to previous posters, my family and I will choose to remember those heady days in FCS with great games and great rivalries. You made that all possible for us. Fair winds and following seas!

RE: Bobby Appreciation Thread
And Bobby left whoever the new coach is with 19 returning starters....and had talked Kumah into returning, but that sounds like a far fetch now. The program has young talent in place that is primed to improve over the next 2-3 years. They have a smaller recruiting class, but the majority of them are highly rated. The new coach has a new stadium to sell. Whoever the new coach is going to be is set up for success. Its on them to make it happen.

This isn't that different that when Lane Kiffin walked into a great situation.

It's sad to see the face of ODU football gone. Thanks for the great memories and the endless work you and your staff did, bringing Old Dominion University football to reality. Nothing but the best going forward.

Nice to see a lot of current and former players showing support for Wilder. One of the truly great men and I hope our next coach treats players, families, fans, and media the same way.

Could not have asked for a better coach to start and build our program. Overall, he did a lot for us. I'll always be a Bobby Wilder fan and wish him nothing but the best in the future.

RE: Bobby Appreciation Thread
As others have stated Bobby Wilder is the reason ODU football is where it is. I'll never forget the Chowan game, all the games I was on the sideline for and on the road for as a cheerleader (getting to travel to Georgia Southern was special and it's a trip I won't forget, he and the team coached and played their guts out), getting to meet him as a student picking up the first student ticket of the 2010/2011 season he was as humble and gracious as one can get, all the fun and exciting FCS days, and the win over VT. I think he may have been a little in over his head at the FBS level but I will remember his time here with fond memories. One day there will be a Wilder statue or plaque dedicated to him outside the stadium but for now we have to move on.

Thank you Bobby for what you did for this program, I have been let go from a dream job before and it is absolutely devastating. This is not an easy time but in the end things will work out
