Norvell is Missouri's top target in the same manner that Saban, Dabo, Harbough, and Malzahn will be our top target when Norvell eventually leaves. (for some other place much better than Mizzou)

I have to think Norvell would jump at the Missouri job. You’re not in the SEC West and if you believe you can compete with Georgia and Florida in the SEC East, you take the money and run.

They would still be close to his inlaws, and Mizzou is in an easy division of the SEC. But the school has serious issues. And there will be much better job openings coming up.
In fact, I believe thats why Mizzou, Ole Miss, etc. have gone ahead and performed their firings this year. Cause next year could be really tough to find a coach with all of the better openings.

RE: CBS Sports seriously reporting Norvell Top Target of....Mizzou
Mizzou would not be bad at all and would make sense, although not sure it is “better” enough
Pinkel did very well there for quite a while. They are the only FCS school in the entire state, and can draw from two very large areas in Kansas City and St. Louis. They can also reach Chicago and Texas.
Every school in the SEC has a difficult road. Even Alabama plays Auburn, LSU and TXAM every year, let alone TN. Missouri’s problem is that they may have some really good years, but it just seems unlikely they could ever consistently be ahead of Florida and Georgia in the East. In spite of TN five game winning streak over juggernauts, they cannot either.

Agreed. They were smart to do it now. It will be hard for Norvell to say no.

Based strictly on that article they should go after Josh Heupel.

Missouri is cash strapped so they have to find them a coach they can afford. It will not be Mike. Only school Mike would be interested in that is open now is FSU. All the other schools are lower tier power 5 schools.

I've heard the "sleeping giant" theory for Missouri for 30+ years, at some point, you realize the giant is not sleeping, he's dead.
If I'm Norvell, knowing what I have coming back to Memphis, I hard pass. Same for Arkansas. Same for Ole Miss. Florida State though …

What does Norvell have to do with Josh Heupel? Unless you responded to my post unintentionally.

I don't believe for one second that Norvell would leave for Missouri, Arkansas or Ole Miss. Those would be money calls and I'd wager that we're likely to pay Norvell in a big way by the first of the year.

RE: CBS Sports seriously reporting Norvell Top Target of....Mizzou
Never heard Missouri as a sleeping giant
Simply that they are relatively appealing, but as I opined, I would not think appealing enough
They won the SEC East in 2013 and 2014 and I believe in 2007 came within one game of playing for a national championship. Pinkel has a lot of other really good top ten seasons
They struggled some in the 1980s and 1990s in the Big 8, but in the 1970s were basically third behind dominant Nebraska and Oklahoma
I don’t think they are a sleeping giant and believe almost no matter what outside a few seasons they will be behind Florida and Georgia, settling in around UTK and South Carolina
But it is a flagship university with a lot of appeal
If I was a very hot commodity and 38 years old at the current Memphis, I would only look at Florida State out of the current openings. Not Arkansas, not Mississippi, Not BC, although I might be intrigued, but maybe Missouri. It is possible he will have to succeed some at a Missouri to ever get to a Southern Cal gig. Who knows?

Alot schools killed their relevancy by joining unnatural conference's. Every school that left the Big 12 is struggling. They sacrificed rivalries and recruiting territories for money. Missouri, Colorado, and Nebraska will always be what they are. Missouri is just Arkansas 2.0. Better jobs for Mike Norvell will be open.

Okay
He just started his account. I think he was just announcing himself.
I hope we can keep him. A major conference in the weaker division will be tempting.

If we lose Norvell I would try to see if Scott Frost would leave the dumpster fire at Nebraska. That program is dead and he runs the exact offense we have grown accustomed to.

RE: CBS Sports seriously reporting Norvell Top Target of....Mizzou
Mike Norvell is on “everybody’s” wish list these days and rightly so, but to think that he would jump to a cellar dweller program in the SEC West is laughable. As far as Mizzou is concerned, would be a bit more attractive, however getting by FL/GA in the East, at this point is far fetched. Maybe once in a blue moon, like 2013 & 2014, however still have the big boys waiting in the wings for SEC Championship.
Believe CMN sights are set higher and wherever he ends up in the future the expectation is to win a National Championship. Absolutely NEVER happening with the choices above.
