Who doesn't go bowling?
There are 79 bowl-eligible teams and 78 spots. Who's left without a chair when the music stops? Feel free to explain your reasoning.

RE: Who doesn't go bowling?
MAC has 8 eligible teams, has only 5 bowl ties, and has four 6-6 teams. So, very likely it's one of those 6-6 MAC teams.

Agree. EMich is the weakest fanbase. But actually it comes down to which school is least willing to spend money to go to a bowl.

A 6-6 MAC team will unfortunately be the one sitting at home

Either Eastern Michigan or Kent State. Flip a coin.

Any team with 7 wins will get an invite. Any 6-6 team is at risk of not getting a bowl invite.

This is why I picked Eastern Michigan... But Kent State is right there too...

That's not a rule anymore (see 8-4 Temple in 2011).

In 2011 they finished the season 9–4, 5–3 in MAC play to finish in second place in the East Division. They were invited to the New Mexico Bowl where they defeated Wyoming 37–15.

RE: Who doesn't go bowling?
Toledo was 8-4 one year and did not get invited while a 6-6 MAC school did.
It is Liberty since all independent schools really do not have a bowl tie-in, but they are the new kids on the block so they will not go bowling. Look at the schools who joined FBS? They usually do not get a bowl invite in their 1st 2 years in FBS. Boise State missed bowl games in their first years. One year they were 8-3 and not get invited.

The 2010-11 bowl season. Don't be pedantic.

Nope. The year was 2003 and the MAC had five teams with winning records. It was probably one of the best MAC seasons ever because Miami OH finished 13-1, beat Louisville in the GMAC Bowl, and finished #10 in the AP Poll.
Bowling Green finished 11-3, beat Northwestern in the Motor City Bowl, and finished #23 in the AP Poll.
2003 AP Poll
Northern Illinois 10-2, Marshall & Toledo 8-4, and Akron 7-5 did not receive a bowl bid that year.

In 2010, bowls could select whoever they wanted as long as they had 6 wins. So there were several 6-6 SEC selected over teams with better records because bowls were about fans of teams traveling to their city and they felt they could count on a P5 school fan base to travel.
In 2016, the NCAA Division I Council passed a rule stating all 6-6 teams must be selected before a 5-7 team so I stand corrected. But I do remember something that eluded to 7-5 teams having to be selected over 6-6 teams a few years ago.
In 2018 they refined that rule:
2020-2026 Bowl Certification
So I stand by my original comment that rule or not, a 7-5 will not be left out of a bowl before a 6-6 team.

Kent State has been garbage for so long that I want to see them make a bowl game. They'd really treasure it. Have them face some 6-6 G5 team.

Liberty or Toledo.
Liberty beat a TON of 2-win teams, Toledo at the bottom of the MAC West won't look good.

EMU, since Liberty will buy their way into a bowl.

Toledo also has a decent brand with previous wins over P5 teams and consistent success. In bowl selection, perception matters more than reality. They're in.

You may end up being right in this case, as only one team will stay home.
But there is no rule that requires a bowl to offer a bid to a 7-5 floater over a 6-6 floater.

RE: Who doesn't go bowling?
Not voting. I don't want to jinx Kent State.
The MAC will work to try to find a spot for its teams ... if there is an open spot and the bowl would like to have CMU, WMU, Miami or Buffalo, that opens up a spot for another one of the 6-6 schools in the affiliated bowls. If it's up to the conference who goes to a bowl, they might be inclined to go by conference standing, which would help (5-3) Ohio and Kent State versus (3-5) Toledo and EMU.
But it's hard to say how some specific bowl committee may go ... Toledo has more brand recognition than Kent State or EMU, but a lot of the fans are cranky at the coach and are in general a lot more angry to be at 6-6 than EMU or Kent State, where the fanbases are more bowl hungry.
If it's an open spot for one of the better MAC schools and a opening comes up in the Detroit bowl, obviously they would prefer Toledo or EMU to Kent State. But if that is the Big Ten one school short and it's BC or UNC in Detroit, we could expect either CMU or WMU would be going to Detroit.
