Usually the MAC is left out. SB and CUSA teams are closer to the bowls. AAC and MWC are higher profile.

My guess is its one of the 6-6 teams. There are only 6 in G5
Tulane-AAC they're in
FIU-CUSA
Kent, Ohio, Toledo, EMU MAC

CBS picks Toledo to miss. I would guess EMU.

RE: Who doesn't go bowling?
Lot of people on here kept saying a MAC team would be left out last year. They all made it.

FYI.

Doubt they all get in this year (there's just too many), tho. Voted Toledo. Last in the West Division looks awful.

Liberty can't buy their way into a bowl. I am sorry. There should be a rule that no Independents ger bowl births. They need to be in a conference. BYU stole abowl birth away from the MWC last year. That is not fair when they were 6-6 and got the Idaho bowl. This could force the independents beg their way into a conference or form a G6.

No, Miami-O was left out last year, along with teams from the MW, SB, and CUSA.

RE: Who doesn't go bowling?
The MAC has 5 tie-ins but only 4 with 7+ wins this year.

One 6-6 school will be going to one of the 5 contracted bowls. Buffalo is taking Bahamas so they aren't taking that slot. Mobile will probably be a division winner. A 6-6 will then be slipping into either Potato, Camelia or Boca Raton.

Detroit if it's open and it is will take a MAC team. It should be one of the Michigan MAC teams. Do they go high end with CMU or WMU/EMU option. EMU as a 6-6 could end up there opposite a CUSA team or something.

Ohio has shown up in non-MAC tie-in bowls in the past. They may ship out somewhere but then again they may show up in the Potato or Camelia as they were the preseason consensus team. Ohio dropped 4 games by less than 4 points and could have very easily been 8-4.

Liberty has a secondary agreement with the Cure bowl. If the AAC gets either the Access, Liberty or Indy bowl (or any other at large birth for that matter), they will face a SBC team.

This could be true since Liberty only has back a back up agreement for bowls. That would suck for the MAC. 07-coffee3

Yes the smell of money and fans in the stands for Liberty might get them a pass over a MAC team. Once again that sucks for the MAC fans. 07-coffee3

People keep saying this but .... the AAC doesn't have a bowl hierarchy, and even if it is short of enough teams to fill all its bowls (which it will be), it could choose to fill the Cure Bowl rather than some other bowl. It's up to the AAC.

It's not like "well, if the AAC can't fill all its slots, then the Cure Bowl automatically reverts to Liberty".

Isn't Liberty's only current bowl agreement a secondary agreement with The Cure Bowl? If that's the case, unless someone in the Sun Belt or AAC makes the access bowl, both those conferences will have enough eligible teams to fill their bowl slots leaving Liberty out in the cold.

On the one hand, the AAC may have the inside track for the access bowl.

Even if they don't, it just changes the bowl that Liberty goes to ... with only +1 eligible schools, it is guaranteed that there will be open slots available after all Go5 conferences have used all of their available bowl ties, and Liberty is going to be the first pick by one or more of those bowl committees, for the expected traveling supporter numbers for their first ever bowl.

The uncertainties are how the NY6 spreads the six at-large CFP/NY6 and Go5 Access spot, which then filter through to which bowls have open spots and who they would prefer filling them with from the available schools in conferences with surplus eligible schools. But the available of open slots is a mathematical certainty given the structure of bowl ties and a surplus of only one bowl eligible school.

It doesn’t just have to be the Access bowl. Secondary ties can triumph primary ties. So, if the Liberty or Indy (or any other bowl) wants an AAC team, the Cure will most likely be shorted.

FWIW I saw one outlet saying AAC would short the First Responder Bowl in Texas and send a team (most likely Temple) to the Cure.

Same writer predicted Liberty vs some CUSA

Could be. With more West teams eligible, they will try to get as many P5 matchups as possible within a reasonable distance. If there isn't one there, a team might choose to go to Orlando. Also, if/when Hawaii plays BYU at home then an AAC team will likely go to FL. Maybe Temple since Tulane went last year? Just really depends on what opens up elsewhere for the runner up, Navy (if they don't want to play at home), SMU and UCF.

Yes, but one factor to consider is that the Indy Bowl isn't likely to be very appealing, as it is very unlikely that either the SEC or ACC will fill their slots, so the AAC would be facing an SB team.

Heck, the Birmingham Bowl is going to lack appeal too, because the SEC surely isn't playing in that game either.

The Liberty would have great appeal of course, but the Big 12 and SEC are likely to fill their slots in that game so it may not be available.

Overall, if the AAC gets the NY6 bid, their will be six eligible AAC team for six guaranteed slots, and three other conditional slots (Hawaii, Indy, Liberty).

Of those, the only one I think the AAC is 100% likely to fill is the Military Bowl, as the ACC will surely send a team to that game.

Among the others, there doesn't seem to be obvious preferences, so the AAC might choose to fill the Cure Bowl, or they might not.

But one thing's for sure: I seriously doubt the AAC will care what impact its decision has on Liberty. That will not factor in to its thinking.

Now this is all I can think about...

[Image: images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcTrXmMIxBWwl8JeLszHd...drOF_eWi6n]

Maybe we can get Liberty Mutual Insurance to sponsor a bowl matching up both teams, and Doug can flip the coin at the start?

CUSA would be in Indy. Unless there is a trade, Sun Belt doesn't have an available team to send.
