If that's the case, unless someone in the Sun Belt or AAC makes the access bowl, both those conferences will have enough eligible teams to fill their bowl slots leaving Liberty out in the cold.
It doesn’t just have to be the Access bowl. Secondary ties can triumph primary ties. So, if the Liberty or Indy (or any other bowl) wants an AAC team, the Cure will most likely be shorted.
Yes, but one factor to consider is that the Indy Bowl isn't likely to be very appealing, as it is very unlikely that either the SEC or ACC will fill their slots, so the AAC would be facing an SB team.
Heck, the Birmingham Bowl is going to lack appeal too, because the SEC surely isn't playing in that game either.
The Liberty would have great appeal of course, but the Big 12 and SEC are likely to fill their slots in that game so it may not be available.
Overall, if the AAC gets the NY6 bid, their will be six eligible AAC team for six guaranteed slots, and three other conditional slots (Hawaii, Indy, Liberty).
Of those, the only one I think the AAC is 100% likely to fill is the Military Bowl, as the ACC will surely send a team to that game.
Among the others, there doesn't seem to be obvious preferences, so the AAC might choose to fill the Cure Bowl, or they might not.
But one thing's for sure: I seriously doubt the AAC will care what impact its decision has on Liberty. That will not factor in to its thinking.
