Wow! You knew it was coming but you're never really prepared to hear it. RIP Coach and prayers sent to the Sullivan's family.

RE: RIP Pat Sullivan
Sure would of like to see Coach Sullivan take the helms for the Blazers once Watson decided to quit and leave guess they thought Coach Callawy would be a better fit. Pat Sullivan was a great man. But Really thought this took place like 3 years ago.

A great college player but more importantly a great person. Both UAB and Auburn families are hurting today.

And Samford. A great man he was. I can't help but think that his timing couldn't have been better, with Auburn beating Alabama last night. I'm sure he would've wanted it that way.

Depending on which version of events you subscribe to and how you interpret them, he was the head coach for about a day.
According to one version...
The offer was extended by the university president. The offer was conditionally accepted, and the president agreed to the condition.
The condition was that Sullivan report directly to the president and not to Watson as athletic director as apparently that relationship was not the best and Sullivan expected Watson to attempt to control the football team as AD.
Watson found out about it and got so upset that he ran to a friend on the BOT (we'll call him "Paul") and said that this was unacceptable. "Paul" then told the president she could not do that (if so, a SACS violation by "Paul")...the breakdown of trust between the president and Watson then leading to Watson's immediate and angry departure... the attempted hiring of Jimbo, and the eventual hiring of "Paul's" hunting buddy.
